Sixth House Coming to Hogwarts
By Ariene Callahan

Yes, the most exciting news to hit Hogwarts this month. Well, that and the fact that Keato Abbot has become ruler of Bulgaria, more on that story later

Professor Alba Dumbledore announced earlier this month, that a sixth house would be added to the growing school.  A decision that herself and the other deputies have discussed considerably at length. Its no surprise, as the school has experienced exponential growth in the last few years. Even with the opening of Penshire, it seemed that more and more breeds of students were joining every day.

It was also announced that each of the five houses, would have an opportunity to create the name and motto of the sixth house. On February 17th, all houses submitted to their respective Heads of House, their joined effort for naming the newest house. Of course, we all wait anxiously for the choices to be narrowed down to ten. The final ten, will be unveiled to us, and we will vote on which name we prefer.

PADs has continued to grow, and with the ever changing student body, those who run the site, create fun and new ways to experience PADs Hogwarts at its fullest.
End of Term is Fast Approaching!
By Penshire #5

Spring is finally reaching PAD's Hogwarts, and everyone can feel it.  The dreary winter RPs are slowly being replaced with bright, warm, outdoor RPGs on the grounds and near the lake.  Quidditch is slowly wrapping itself up, and the tensions become tighter and tighter between every house.  Because along with spring comes the end of term

It went so quickly!  Who can believe that the end of term is a mere two-and-a-half months away?  Three more Quidditch matches and the winner of the quidditch cup will be knownwill Penshire be able to come away with it two years in a row, or will Ravenclaw or Gryffindor manage to snatch the win?  Just two more months and point-making will end while the final results are tallied Ravenclaw and Penshire are at the top now, but will another house come from behind and pull out a victory?

Everyone in all houses is frantically working to make these last few weeks countturning in lessons, participating in club activities, writing articles every little bit counts, and Hogwarts veterans know that working hard these last two months are the most critical time when it comes to pulling out a win.  The ball's rollingtry not to get swept away!
The 6th House Continues
By Fiona Chauvet

The past month has been an exciting one for Hogwarts. Were even further into our selection of our 6th house, and its probably only months now well be able to welcome it into our Hogwarts home. In the last issue of the Gazette all five houses were busy coming up with house names, founders and mottos. All the houses submitted their ideas and the staff deliberated for some time. They just recently showed us their final choices and there are some really creative ideas in there. The school is in the process of voting on their favorites, and the voting ends on April 1st, I believe. By the time this issue is released we should have our 6th house! Its quite exciting, and by the looks of the choices on the bulletin board I know whatever name and motto gets chosen it will be an excellent one.
Voting on New House and Motto
By Ava Black

Voting for the New House founder and motto is up on the BB.  I had such a hard time narrowing it down to what I thought fit best.  First I thought about the Last name of the Founder.  That would be the name we would call the house.  It had to flow with the rest of the names.  Then I thought about the first name, did it fit in with the other founder names?  Next the motto, did it sound like something the sorting hat said?  I cant wait to see what Pads Hogwarts comes up with and how adding the new house will change the dynamics here at Pads.
And Now Introducing, Assistant Heads of Houses!
By Ariene Callahan

In another major change, PADs Hogwarts has named five Assistant Heads of Houses! This comes after two weeks of anticipation. Each of the five Hogwarts house, has gained a new staff member. To torment, annoy, congratulate, or Merlin knows what other mischief, these five new additions are definitely another reason to celebrate. To Ravenclaw, Professor Taylor Wallace. To Gryffindor, Professor Stephan OConnell. To Slytherin, Professor Bliss. To Hufflepuff, Professor Dickinson. To Penshire, Professor Charles Simbi. Congratulations Professors, we are thrilled at your new positions, and have every faith that you will excel with the grace and efficiency, you have already been known to exude!
The Sixth House: Voting Now!!!!
By Lainey Vaux

As with the creation of the new house, students of Hogwarts are now getting to vote on their favorite choices for the name of the house, as well as the motto. Soon, the other contests that were announced will commence, and it won't be very long before we also have a crest and a bio for the founder of the brand new house. Many Harry Potter role-playing sites have only the four original houses, but PADs is going on its sixth house! Helped along by the ingenuity of both the staff, and the students, the choices for the name and motto are all brilliant, but remember, that there will be only one name, and only one motto, and only one crest. There can't be seven. So get down to the BB, and vote on your favorite one today!!
I Meant To Tell You
By Penshire House

What I consider one of the nicest games ever created, I Meant to Tell You, is a game that sprung up in the Penshire Common Room a few months ago (brought in by the wonderful Professor Ripley), and recently appeared on the Bulletin Board as well.  This game is the place to tell people all those things youve been meaning to say but just never had the time tooand it has definitely served its purpose well.  The only rule?  Everything you say  must be completely and utterly sincere.

Who would have guessed that the students in Penshire had so much to say to each other!  From the day the game was posted everything students had been meaning to say came flying out of the woodwork and hasnt slowed down since then.  Ranging from things such as simply complimenting someone on a new avatar to a homemade voice-clip talking to multiple-people at once, the students of Penshire have embraced this game and made it into one of the most spectacular threads in the house.

What are some things weve told people recently?  Keato for one took the chance to reminisce on the much-loved Penvivor, congratulating his fellow semi-finalists and telling everyone what a great time he had participating.  Amanda in turn thanked Keato for working with the Hogwarts Yearbook Club and taking care of the Penshire section.  Bryony told Amanda that she was thankful for all the work she does, even if she doesnt always get credit for it, which brought about happy celebration that cant ever be described in an article like this.

Professor Ripley always has something good to say about everyone, and makes it clear that were all free to visit her anytime we want to, many people thanked Mom for being such an amazing Head of House, friends told each other how much they really meant to one another

And in general the thread is one big huge love-fest.  And of course, the best part is its not limited to Penshire at all anymore.  Check it out on the BB, and feel free to post it in your Common Rooms it definitely brings out the best in everyone.

News on the Sixth House Creation: House Motto!
By Kaylee Keigwin

All the suggestions for the creation of the sixth house here at PADs have been submitted, and now there are some decisions to be made! We are grateful for the Staff, who have shifted through the submissions and carefully narrowed down the finalists for the future house motto. A total of seven have been selected, and are as follows:
1. And there's _____________
Where dreamers take center stage
People always have their say
And ideas are never caged!

2. And there's ____________
Where reality and fantasy tie
No fear of self can be seen
And dreams never die.

3. And there's ___________
Where dreams know no bounds
Hearts filled with compassion
And strength comes in mounds.

4. Your home might be in __________
If you're a dreamer true
Their tower up among the stars
Holds thinkers just like you.
5. You maybe belong to ___________
Where dreamers and thinkers thrive
If you are inventive
Its here you should arrive.

6. In ______ are the dreamers,
If you've a mind to tinker
Where those who like to invent
In this house are the thinkers.

7. You may be sorted to __________
Where dwell the motivated thinkers
who like to dream and invent
and seem to always tinker.
All are welcome to participate in this decision, simply visit the Bulletin Board to cast your vote! It has been requested, however, that your selection be carefully pondered; consider the other mottos, as well as the new house's characteristics. You're participation is greatly appreciated!
Pi at Hogwarts
By Summer Levy

In the lovely month of March, there existed a very...mathematical tasty day. Do you know what I'm talking about?

The day when math is truly tasty to you arithmetic-haters, the day that is coincidentally Albert Einstein's birthday...YEP! It's 3.14159265358979323846-and-so-on day! In other words, the House of Ravenclaw celebrated Pi Day on the 14th of March. Never before has this number been so tasty, as many different pies have made a short appearance at the party before becoming a part of someone's outfit minutes later.

Pi Day can be celebrated in a variety of ways. Pie is eaten (or thrown), games are played, and of course, it is the day when we show our appreciation towards Pi. I mean, how else would you know how to calculate the circumference of a circle, without knowing what Pi is? In what other way would you be able to calculate the area, the surface area, or the volume of anything circular? How else could angles be expressed in an irrational way in radian mode? That is the brilliance of what Pi brings to us, and on 3.14, or March 14th, we must acknowledge that, and appreciate Pi.

For us, we celebrated it with, of course, an introduction to the day, since many magical folks don't know anything about muggle mathematics. Next was a very tasty pie-throwing contest that was not so well organized, and pies were flying everywhere! We did, however, discover that the sticky fruity substance in the pies make a very nice hair gel, as Emily Bond demonstrated creatively on Lucius Malfoy's hair.

Now, of course, this couldn't have been possible without Mr L. Malfoy, as he planned this party all by himself. Thank you so much! Isn't he such a nice little boy? He has a bright future...There's nothing evil about him...nothing at all....
December's Doorway
By December R. Lovegood

In Hufflepuff, many of us have a place of our own where we can hang out, and talk to our fellow housemates outside of the spam topic. In a way, it's like having a spam topic of our very own, and until now, there have been no objections as to the size of the hangout, or the type of place it was, until I, December Rae Lovegood, claimed a doorway. However, the only person to object, was Ronald Weasley, complaining that doorways made him "claustrophobic", and Teagan Kincade chimed in, saying that a bigger hangout. What did I have to say to this? "Well, I could've chosen 'December's Dance Floor' if I knew that you guys needed a bigger place to hang out." And after that, there has been no objection as to the size of the hangout.
How to Manage Your Time
By Fiona Chauvet

The school term seems to fly by, and before you realize it you haven't gotten anything accomplished. With only months left before summer break you have to rush to get everything done. On top of that there are finals to worry about. How on earth will you manage to get everything done? The simplest solution is to manage your time wisely.

First you should get yourself a day planner. It sounds like a nerd thing to do, but you'll thank me for it. Each week you'll plan what you want to get done. Let's say you want to finish your Potions homework, write some poems for the Writing Club, and write a few articles for the gazette. On Monday and Tuesday write down that you'll make it your goal to finish all of Potions. Wednesday and Thursday you'll dedicate to writing your poems. On Friday you can take the time to write your articles. You'll see you will be less stressed out and more organized. I bet you'll get more done too.
The Great Cloud Battle
By Emma Staunton

"The Great Cloud Battle" came about a while ago, when a few of us in the Ravenclaw Common Room wanted it to snow at our own house so that we would be able to have a day off from muggle school. It all started when one of the Ravens mentioned that it was supposed to snow at their house. Jolie Taylor was the first, and stole the cloud from that Raven. Erica Lovegood was quick to take the cloud back, but Jolie was quick in her pursuit, and brought the cloud back to her house, but it wasn't too long before Erica stole the cloud, and not too long after that, Luna Lovegood took the cloud back to her own house. Jolie soon made a come back, and took the cloud, and then Arya took the cloud back over to her house, while Luna, who was quick to get the cloud back, accused the elf of having snow at her house during the previous week. Will this battle for the coveted snow cloud ever cease? Or will it be neverending? So far, it seems as though it's going to be a neverending battle, and this Raven has to go and take the snow cloud from Lucius Malfoy right now...
Pranks of the Past
By Fiona Chauvet

April Fools Day is an exciting time of year for many people. Personally I never got into it myself, but some people really get a kick out of it. You can always expect to see something interesting happening at Hogwarts on this day, and Im a bit excited to see what people will be doing this year. To help us prepare for the holiday I thought Id reminisce a bit and give a summary of what April Fools Day was like in Gryffindor last year.
There were a lot of people switching it up and dressing up as each other. It was a little confusing, but pretty funny to walk into the common room and see one of the guys dressed up as a girl. I might recall Gawyn being one of them. There were also a few people who decided to change their hair color for the day. I guess if youre looking for a temporary change April Fools is the day to do it.
Those were just some of the funny moments of last year. I cant wait to see what people will cook up this April Fools Day.
Simple Home Remedies: Cranberries
By Teagan Kincade

Being one who has grown up on the outskirts of the real "down under," I know many simple home remedies to help illnesses that many would otherwise pay many dollars on doctors' visits for cures. Here is my first edition of a simple help guide! Heed my advice carefully, and remember, too much of anything will give you the runs!

Cranberries are found in all stores, most commonly in the form of drinks. The use of cranberries does many things for your system. First and foremost, it is a purifying agent. This means that it will clean your system of anything curdling or sitting in your stomach. Stomach cramps? Constipated? As gross as it sounds, many get these symptoms. A glass of cranberry juice will flush most anything from your system. This comes in handy especially for urinary tract infections, or cystitis, as the bacteria in your system is almost all of it cleared away by drinking healthy amounts of cranberry juice. Cranberries are also good for the kidney stones, believe it or not! Other names for Cranberry include: American Cranberry, Bear Berry, Black Cranberry, and Low Cranberry. For more information, I can always suggest a search on mayoclinic.com
Summer's Latest Schemes
By Luna Lovegood

Luna Lovegood here. Reporting with a something that she just recently observed. Ravenclaw's senior prefect, Summer Joan Levy, was just caught shredding important papers. Only she knew the content of these, and when I asked her what they said, the reply was "oh, nothing." But she had an innocent look on her face. And being a Ravenclaw myself, I know that there has to be more. No Ravenclaw has an innocent look on his or her face without having some sort of devious plan up their sleeves. I know better. That expression is on my face oh too often.

I also spotted Summer doing extreme amounts of cleaning around the common room. This normally would not bother me, but with her shredding, I knew it could not be good. My only hopes is that I still have a bed when I go up to my dorm later.
So THAT'S Why...
By Summer Levy

Believe me when I say that there are just some things that are...unexplicable. And just when you're about to conclude that there's no logical explanation, a perfectly accountable reason jumps out...

Ever wondered why you study so much, but still end up with a low mark? Psychologists can give you a long analysis about your performance, but here, I can prove it for your eyes with simple arithmetic.

Let:
study = no fail
no study = fail

Hence,
study + no study = no fail + fail
study (1 + no) = fail (1 + no)

Thus,
study = fail

If anyone forces you to study, and you feel it is useless, this is a perfectly reasonable explanation that you can use to prove your point. Good luck! (And don't hunt me down if you fail your classes!)
So THAT'S Why...Part 2
By Summer Levy

This time, I explain to you something with meaningful quotes. And now, don't take any offence with the starting equation, as I'm sure that to court a female, one would have to spend both time and money in doing so. Here, I prove to you why girls = evil

Let:
girls = time x money

And because "time is money",
time = money

Meaning that,
girls = money x money
girls = money^2

And because "money is the root of all evil",
money = sqrt(evil)

So,
girls = [sqrt(evil)]^2
girls = evil

Now, with this proven, I'm not saying that I'm not the sweetheart that Gred says I am, but this proves....something.....
