The Owl Gazette

A small shout-out to a certain Gryffindor
By Soxie

This is a special article.  Why?  Because it's been quite a while since you've read any article written by your dearest Soxie.  Why else?  Because this is not only going to be some random article but an article about a special someone.  A special Gryffindor, that is.  Who might this special Gryffindor be?  Why, it could be the boy who is constantly teased by his surrounding peers.  Or it could be the graduated seventh-year who still stays among us because she simply loves us too much?  But no, it's neither one of the two.   If you've noticed, as I'm sure you have because all Hogwartians have amazingly keen eyes, there is a certain Gryffindor who has contributed more than enough for this month's issue of the Gazette.

This Gryffindor is none other than the talented Fiona Chauvet, who decided to use her good heart and write up a total of 17 articles, taking the numerous ideas that were posted in the beginning of our Gazette-based thread and turning them into the beautifully-written articles you are now reading.  So here's a grateful 'merci' to Fiona Chauvet, from your favorite Soxie and muchos love from all the other Gryffies.
The Halloween Bash
By Alex

The Halloween Ball was amazing to me. All the Gryffindors were Disney Characters! I was Mickey Mouse. The Ravenclaws were Shakespeare characters; I didn't see the Slytherins or Hufflepuffs. Well the party was fun and everyone was there.I guess the Yule Ball will be better.
Lions Win Big at the Races
By Fiona Chauvet

Gryffindor had a good reason to celebrate at end of the broomstick races. Two of our lions took first place in their races! Death and Hilary Stevens were the first to cross the finish line, while Adam Crawford Jr. took third in his race and Kristin Johnson was fourth in hers. I was able to grab a quick interview with our two champions earlier, and here's what they had to say about their races.

FC: Any expectations before the big race?
D: Well I was nervous, but I didn't show my nervousness, because emotions are not my thing. But I thought I would get at least 2nd place or something better, because I am good on a broom.
HS: Expectations? What expectations? XD I honestly wasn't thinking about the placing and all the rest, I just wanted to get out there and have some fun, maybe consider strategy later. Typical me really.

FC: Were those expectations correct?
D: NO!! I didn't make 2nd place...I made 1st place!
HS: Yeah, I guess. I mean, I rolled with it and saved the magic wands until the near end. So yeah. I guess I had fun too, especially as I have bragging rights now.

FC: Who did you think was going to be your biggest competition?
D: I honestly though, maybe like Kristin because she's fierce.
HS: I think I was expecting Cedric as major competition from the events near the start, but I knew Gwen might be too. Sonic was also nagging in my mind, but he went AWOL. Lucky for me. XD

FC: What was the most surprising event during the race?
D: Definitely the Pixies! They scared the living daisies outta me! And they took a wand from me! But luckily the official and the medical staff got rid of them before someone got hurt.
HS: Pixies! Although, I did actually benefit from it. But still, I was lucky on that front, I guess.

FC: What did you think when you won?
D: I was HAPPY!! I've never won anything in my life, and this was my biggest accomplishment. I think that my mistakes from this race will make my next race a better run!
HS: I was stunned actually. I never expected to win really. It was just a grab as high as you can get race for me. I actually wanted second or third, but I won't say no to first! So yeah, just 'Wow' really. XD

Congratulations Hilary and Death! You made the lions proud!
Interview with a newbie: Neville Longbottom Edition
By Lily Duncan

Lily Duncan: You are pretty new to Hogwarts. And in Gryffindor, what or who has helped you the most through being new?
Neville Longbottom: The prefects in both Hufflepuff and Gryffindor were extremely helpful, but it's mainly a learn-as-you-go thing with me. I try to use the tutorials that are here as much as I can and if I get stuck, I just send out a quick PM and get the answer back! It's really neat here!

LD: What is your favorite thing to do in the GCR? (RPG, Games, etc.)
NL: My favorite thing in the GCR is the games and joining in making up articles for The Quibbler! Which by the way, ROCKS!

LD: What is your favorite things about PADs overall?
NL: My favorite thing overall is all the kind people here and how interactive the site is! I mean there is LOADS to do and you can never get bored.

LD: Have you made any new friends?
NL: Yes the whole of the Gryffindor house! They are really kind to me and I've made loads of new friends which I hope continue to be friend with!

LD: Anything else?
NL: Gryffindor for the House Cup!
Lions Got Spirit, Yes We Do!
By Fiona Chauvet

The Gryffindor Cheer Team has finally been resurrected after a long hiatus! Although our former captain, Andie Granger has gone MIA, our co-captain, Megan Miller was there to step in and take over. Her first order of action was to appoint Lily Duncan as our new co-captain and so far things have gotten off to a great start! Our team is rather small right now, but we have a great group of cheerleaders. Karine Frontenac and I, Fiona Chauvet, are also team members. We're ready to cheer at our next Quidditch match and let Hogwarts hear our Gryffindor roar!

Welcome Wagon Welcomes back...

By Fiona Chauvet

The Gryffindor Welcome Wagon has been pleased to welcome back a large group of old students! We had a large wave of oldies return to the lion's den recently. We were happy to welcome back Shanay Smith, Cornelia Potter, Shae Finnigan and Blood Prince! Shanay Smith and Shae Finnigan were both absent since the summer time, but they're finally back and we couldn't be happier! Cornelia Potter took a short absence for about a month. You know how Muggle life can get, but luckily she's returned to the house! Blood Prince is a very old member who we haven't seen in the common room for a year or so! He was happily welcomed back by the lions and we hope to see him around for a long time!

Lion Point-a-thon Break Down
By Fiona Chauvet

The Lion's Den began another Point-a-thon this past November and there was a really good turn out! We broke into two teams: The Cider Sippers and the Leaf Jumpers! Death took control of the Leaf Jumpers and Roxanne was the leader of the AWESOME Cider Sippers. In the end the Cider Sippers came out the winners raking in 2625 points! The Leaf Jumpers came in a VERY close second. Everyone worked very hard, and we hope to have an even greater end to our next Lion Point-a-thon!

A Big Win for Scarlet & Gold
By Fiona Chauvet

The Quidditch season kicked off at the beginning of the term and Gryffindor had its first match against Ravenclaw. Our captain, Kristin Johnson and co-captain, Leah Black were chasers in the match. Adam Crawford Jr. was the third team chaser. Our Senior Prefect, Audrea Martin was our amazing Keeper and Hilary Stevens took over as Seeker. Also, Kalie Black and Roxanne Whitez were our two awesome beaters. The game went exceptionally well and in the end Hilary Stevens caught the snitch! We left with a huge victory of 200-20! This is a fantastic start to our Quidditch season, and we hope to see many more wins!

Posting Update

By Fiona Chauvet

One of the many things a Gryffindor loves to do is post, and since our last post update the totals have gotten very exciting! A few of our members hit some milestones, most especially Adam Crawford Jr. and Karine Frontenac who reached 1000 posts! Way to go you two! Will Sutton and Lynn Jennings are both very close to 2000, while Wedge and Samantha Taylor passed that mark. Lily Duncan and Hilary Stevens made it to 4000, and yours truly hit 5000. Roxanne Whitez is so close to 11000 she can taste it, and Hermy_own celebrated the big 1-2-0-0-0. Keep on posting, lions!

Is that...Death?
By Fiona Chauvet

Something I noticed recently caught my attention, and since then it's all that will come out of Death Hollow's mouth. His appearance . . . is different to say the least. How this happened, no one is quite sure. You just don't go to sleep looking one way, and wake up the next morning looking completely different! My theory is that he fell into a vat of Professor Snape's special potions. Don't ask me which. They all smell the same to me. But now his new looks have gotten him asking everyone's opinions. He even opened a poll in the GCR asking the house. Most people voted for the better, but one rogue vote didn't care for them. Now Death can't stop looking at himself in the mirror! I'm not sure if the potion will eventually wear off or not. Only time will tell, but in the mean time Death doesn't seem to mind.

Slytherin Scoop
Beonca Aims

We just finished our post war for November; it was between two teams, the Sly Sidewinders and the Cunning Cobras, snakes, of course. Bragging rights were on the line, and it looked like the Cunning Cobras, lead by Professor Snape was going to win but then Jennifer Kull and Darmean Volten pulled an all-nighter and Sly Sidewinders lived up to their name. By the time you read this, the Thanksgiving Slytherin Style RPG should have run its course, it was a timed RP in which the students were to bring something great to eat and the professor was cooking the turkey. I am sure this one is going to end up in a food fight, or some other mischievous fun knowing the Slytherin like I do.
Interviews
By: Rose Granger

I had the chance to interview Penshire's own Keato Abbot and Amanda about what they are doing for the holidays.  Here's what they had to say.:

R:What are you doing this christmas holiday?

K:I'm going to my cousin and uncles place!
A:I'm doing the same thing I always do on the Christmas holiday, I stay home with my family.

R: what are you going to be doing there?

K:Seeing a few quidditch matches other than that just hanging around .
A:We have a huge dinner and we open one present at midnight.

R:Do you have any family traditions?

K: We always shoot up fireworks in a closet.
A:Yea, actually. I'm Italian, so our tradition is to have a huge fish dinner on Christmas Eve.

My last question is:
R:What are you looking forward to most this holiday?

K:Probably the quidditch! Also just Christmas in general!
A:My 19th Birthday!

Well it seems like Keato and Amanda will be having a happy holidays.I hope everyone at Hogwarts has a good Christmas. :)

Hot topics? What I meant to tell you is one thread that is hot. What is it about? Well, you post in it something about someone you meant to tell them, nice things. Like how so-and-so made you feel when you first arrived, or how helpful someone has been, or how someone makes you laugh, or how much you enjoy RPing with them. Course you name names when posting and being how everyone in Penshire gets on so well with everyone, many posts are filled with names and kind things about them. Another hot topic, well, among a few, is Survivor China, there are five of us that keep that one up to date with our thoughts on the challenges and people still in the game. Other threads, of course are games, and the personal areas in the Chit-chat section. One of the hot RPGs, and still going strong is The Alternate World that takes place in the Land of Penshire, where everyone is a lord or lady of the court, the feast has just ended and the ball is soon to begin. The Spookacular Pajama Party, too, is still going strong now with the third ghost story starting!
Badger Point Brawl Update
By Adrianna La Cerva

This month's point brawl was a close match! In fact, there was a mere 15 point difference between first and second place, proving once again, that every point counts.
Novembers winner is Zela Marionettie whose hard work earned the house 1630 points! Great job Zee, you've got Hufflepuff pride!  As always, our winner will be receiving 25 galleons from Prof. Lockharts haircare fund.  Thats right, our HOH buys our hard work!
Who will be next months winner? Only time will tell.  Until then, be on the lookout for the Hufflepuff hourglass beefing up!  Way to go badgers!
Sadie Hawkins Dance!
A Ravenclaw who chooses to remain anonymous

This November, Ravenclaw hosted its First Annual Sadie Hawkins Day Dance. Planned by the Chaos Claws Cheer Crew, the dance was a real success, and is still going strong.

A problem arose from the fact that Ravenclaw has]many more girls than boys. But it worked out alright, as some girls came without dates, like Jolie Taylor, Gemini Huggle, Sarah Johnson, and Emma Staunton.

The couples at the dance were:
Anna and Augustus
Ariene and Cedric
Arya and Will
Birdie and Lucius
Jacyn and Dawlish
Kira and Joe
Lily and Avacraft
Luna and Roxas
Summer and Artemius

Scandal arose when Augustus arrived late, and showed up with a haughty Italian cousin, currently chatting with Gwen. Augustus made up for this by giving Anna a beautiful necklace.

By an odd coincidence, Luc also arrived with a cousin, a female by the name of Melanie. Their quarrelling got him in trouble, by distracting him from his date. Birdie used this time to dance with Melanie Monopoly, who planned this dance.

Summer and Artemius had an odd start to the dance. Artemius arrived just as Summer asked her cousin Gemini to dance with her. Baxby also asked Gem, as a challenge to Summer. Summer one-upped her date but shrugging this off and dancing with Arya, whose date hadnt shown up yet.

She left Arya and Anna to dance, until Aryas date showed up. As said before, Augustus showed up soon after, bearing gifts. Artemius and Summer finally started dancing, girl leading boy in a swing dance.

While all of this was going on, Jacyn and Dawlish were doing something very odd. As many of you readers surely know, Dawlish Ledgerwood happens to be floating at the moment. To deal with this predicament, Jacyn is being floated by Dawlish. This opened up a whole new dimension of dancing for them, including flipping. They danced this way for quite some time, before finally stopping. Jacyn has just told Jolie that she has to dance with someone, and offered Dawlish. Jolie has accepted.

Joe Nworb showed up to the dance, posting once. Kira hasnt shown up yet.

Lily and Ava went to the dance as friends. Ava arrived slightly late, and Lily slightly early. They are dancing at the moment.

Luna and Roxas both arrived early, and danced for quite some time before taking a break.

A real surprise came when a new Ravenclaw, Jakson McKnight, came to the dance. Emma asked him to dance, and he accepted. Quite a spectacle.

But by far the cutest and sweetest couple at the dance was Arienne and Cedric. They arrived together, and talked to their fellow Ravens before beginning to dance. They look so sweet together, complimenting each other, holding hands.

All in all, the dance is going very well so far, and I do hope it continues.
