| Snapes Return!
By Beonca Aims In a surprise move, Professor Snape has returned to the House of Slytherin on October 18th. I caught up with the tall, dark, and sulking professor in the Great Hall yesterday and ask a few questions, here is the interview. Beonca: Sir, you returned to Slytherin, how does that feel? Snape: Feel? You know Miss Aims, having feelings is dangerous. As to my return to Slytherin, it is like I never left. Beonca: Everyone, almost, minus the guys, are high on hugging you since your return, does this bother you, sir? Snape: I am allowing it for the first few days; the Slytherins are a passionate lot, though that passion is usually about points, Quidditch, or other competitive things, but hugs? Thats new. Beonca: Any big changes down the line for the house? Snape: I have not seen huge changes while I was gone, I do not plan to make big changes now that I am back. I will be adding a few things and working on unity and participation, but Slytherin is Slytherin no matter who is the HeadI take that back, Lockhart would probably destroy the place. *smirk* Beonca: I just want to thank you for taking the time to talk to me, sir. Snape: Youre a Slytherin, you know my door is always opento Slytherins, all others need make an appointment. |
| The Best Head of House EVER.
By a Penshire As a Penshire student Professor Ripley is my Head of House. In all honesty, I never expected her to be anything more than an authority figure, someone who told us what to do and expected them to be done, someone who kept general order. In my life it is rare that I have a teacher or adult figure not immediately related to me to whom I feel comfortable with, who cares about my well being, and who genuinely wants to be friends. Professor Ripley, however, managed to prove to me that there are people out there who might not be related to you but who still have your best interests at heart, who want you to succeed, and will be there with you every step of the way. More than once we've heard Professor Ripley called "Professor Mom," or even simply Mom, without the title in front. This she truly is: virtual mom. Recently I've had the pleasure of getting to know her on a more personal level: my first year and a half here was mostly a business relationship, but since then it has evolved into a more personal friendship. Professor Ripley is someone whom I feel I can put my trust in one-hundred percent, someone who I can tell anything to without being afraid of the consequences. She has always listened to me when I wanted to rant or ramble on about something that was bothering me and never once failed to offer advice and lend support where it was needed. For this reason, more than anything else, Professor Ripley is the ideal Head of House. She goes above and beyond the duties given to her in simply keeping Penshire running, and instead tries to really make friends with the people she works with and the students in her house. Personally speaking, if it weren't for her I might not be here right now, and that's a true fact. Professor Ripley is a treasure-- the type of person that is, unfortunately, becoming increasingly uncommon. Thank goodness we've got her. |
| Slytherin's Favorite Classes
By Jennifer Kull (JUNK) There is always speculation on the general preference for a Slytherin's classes. Most believe that Slytherins prefer only those classes which are taught by the most Princely Professor Snape (no pun intended...). Others speculate that Slytherins only take those courses which are held in the dark, or in the dungeons of the school. Even others speculate that Slytherins prefer to take classes pertaining to the dark arts. For all of those who wonder about this...you are all correct. Potions, Defense Against the Dark Arts, and Magical Myths are the most attended classes by Slytherins. Why is this? This is because Professor Snape teaches them, and all Slytherins know that the Potions Master is by far the greatest teacher in the school. Potions, while being held in the darkness of the dungeons, also has many references to the Dark Arts, or at least the Not-So-Noble Arts, as we Slytherins like to say, for most of the pranks and tricks Slytherins play on others are not technically "dark." Defense Against the Dark Arts teaches students how to perform spells to counter dark.spells, thus teaching those who are interested what to expect others to cast against them. It also eludes to the dark arts, as it must in order to teach the counter spells. Slytherins find this class one of the most informative. Because many magical folk are superstitious, it is thus in a Slytherin's best interest to take Magical Myths. Not only will they learn which superstitious myths are most widely believed - and be able to use this for their own gain - but they learn how best to administer these myths in such a way that would be worth it. for example, say a Slytherin needs a distraction while in a certain village. He or she will work for weeks planting the idea of one myth, superstition, or another until the village is on the edge with fear. At that point when the precipice is visible for the villagers, the planning Slytherin will take action. To conclude this article, why would I, a well-known Slytherin, be letting anyone know the secrets of a Slytherin? The answer to that question, is that I am not. None of this is true. But I shall just leave it up to you, the reader, to decide whether to believe me or not. |

| My First Week In Penshire
By Evan Murdoch Well, let me just say that Penshire is the coolest house at Hogwarts. As soon as I made an introduction, people were posting in it with kind words within minutes. Also, everybody is so active in this house. There is always at least two people on at all times, posting away. I love the RPG section, especially our Spooktacular Pajama Party. Over half our house is there posting regularly. Also, our house loves to post. We have so many of them its not even funny. Every time I reply to a topic or start a new one, there is a reply almost instantly. Just to finish off this little article I would like to say that I love Penshire and every single person there. I feel comfortable and right at home there and I wouldnt want to be anywhere else but there. Look for My First Month In Penshire in the next edition of the Owl Gazette! |
| Walking Among Them
By Beonca Aims Its that time again, where magical folks can walk among Muggles without as much at a sideway glace. Why? Its Halloween and they dress up in odd garments and often emulate us, so we take advantage of this day and actually mix it up a bit in the Muggle World. Though many Muggles choose favorite television or movie characters, you will often find gypsies, witches, wizards, and other familiar people of our kind. Its actually kind of fun to walk around with them right there! Listening to how they talk, or the different accents. And what a great chance to get all kinds of Muggle candy, and for FREE! All you have to do is knock on a house door and when they open it, say, trick or treat and they give you loads of candy bars, candy corn, gum, and just an assortment of things! |
