| An Announcement
By Gawyn Crossguard I know I'm a bit late with this, but anyone who has met me will have expected no less. I don't know how many of you have been keeping up with all the gossip about Roxanne and myself, but I think it only fair that I give you the entire untainted scoop. First of all, let me say that I think you're all nuts for following this for the past year. What were you all thinking? I mean, what is the world coming to when the most interesting news is whether or not a couple of Lions decided to hold hands? I personally thought that the article in last month's issue about the (:insert one of the article titles here:) was very intriguing, and maybe I'm just a little biased when I say this, but the backpacking articles are very informative. Having skirted the issue at hand for over a year now because of some minor technicalities and my strict adherence to tradition, I must say that I think it was all for the best. It gave us both the chance to think things through thoroughly. We had some good times at the dances and the Quidditch games. Our Hogsmeade trips were memorable, but the most important thing came when I was dragged along to Rox's house to ask her father's permission. I don't know how appalled they were by me because I think I managed to make a complete and utter fool of myself, and they hid their horror very well. I think they must have taken pity on me, because I didn't have to go through any extensive interrogation or torture. So, now that I've bored you all to tears, I'll get to my point. However, I must leave you all in suspense for a moment longer as I say that I think it was all for the best, and that I harbor no hard feelings. I wish Miss Whitez every happiness to her. With that said, it is with an unlamented heart that I announce to all you young men and women of Hogwarts that it is not my place to reveal Miss Whitez's statement. |
| Place of the month: the Forbidden Forest
By Ronald Weasley The Forbidden Forest is located on the east side of Hogwarts Castle on the school grounds. The forest is strictly off limits to students except if theres a Care of Magical Creatures lesson thats being taught in there. The forest is full of pine, sycamore, and yew trees. There are several paths, brooks and some clearings. If you go off the paths then the way is almost impassable. There are many creatures that live in the forest. Anything that is dangerous or needs someplace to live are put in the forest. Anybody who has ever been into the forest walk out of it hoping to never go into it again. |
| Magical item of the month: Bludger
By Ronald Weasley A bludger is a round black ball that is used in the game of Quidditch. A bludger is used to attacks and tries to knock off the nearest player which why the beaters try to attempt knock bludgers towards opposing team members. Originally a bludger was a rock but after being used so much, the rock would be turned into gravel. Then it was made of lead but that was quickly abandoned because after taking a beating, there would be indentations on the ball which would affect its ability to fly properly. |
| Creature of the month: Hippogriff
By Ronald Weasley A hippogriff is a creature that has the head, wings, and the forelegs of a giant eagle and the body of a horse. Hippogriffs have different colors which include black, bronze, chestnut, grey and roan. An adults wing span can reach up to 24 feet. Hippogriffs are carnivorous, and are dangerous until they are tamed. Only a trained witch or wizard should attempt taming a hippogriff. A person who wants to approach a hippogriff should bow down to the creature. If the creature bows back, it is available to be pet or ridden. |
| Wizard of the month: Amos Diggory
By Ronald Weasley Amos is a ministry official who works for the Department for regulation and control of magical creatures. Amos is a ruddy faced wizard with a scrubby brown beard. Amos takes great pride in his son, Cedric almost to the point where hes somewhat rude about it to Harry. Sometimes Amos can get very stern and go overboard a little bit. |
| An Interview with the Ninja
By Luna Lovegood Luna Lovegood: Hiya erm, or should I say coffee ninja? *Snickers* so, how exactly did you get your new title? Coffee Ninja: Luna is it? I have been to the Ravenclaw common room before, or as you Ravens call it, the RCR. How do you think the Rowdy Ravens became so rowdy? It was my work. LL: *laughs* Ok Coffee Ninja. Who exactly gave you this odd title? Was it all because of that one Rowdy Ravens incident? CN: The CN federation calls themselves Coffee Ninjas, because where ever we go, people are bound to become hyper. But I believe that Erica, a Raven, recognized me as a Coffee Ninja. No, the Rowdy Ravens incident came after. It's perhaps the best example of work by a CN. They might remain that way for a while. LL: Do you like being a coffee ninja? CN: Yes, I do. Though, it does get lonely sometimes, as under rule 245678 in the CN handbook, a CN is not allowed to tell anyone that they are a CN. But because you came to me, I'm not breaching that rule. I find it to be rather fun to be the main cause of hyper students in Ravenclaw. LL: Anything we should know about the Coffee Ninjas? CN: I strike without warning. I could be in the Annex Building at one point, and then a second later I could be in the North Tower or the dungeons. And that Forbidden Corridor. I live behind there. That's why it's forbidden. I also have complete knowledge of the secret passageways in the school. LL:*Chuckles* Wow! We've better be on the lookout for you. Well, thanks for the interview. CN: Well, it's been nice, Luna. But I really must be off. I spotted quite a few students around the BB that are not hyper yet. I should go fix that. As soon as I can get to the BB. *Disappears* LL: Bye then. *waves* |
| Small Interview with PAD
By Alex Alex: So what is it like being Headmistress? PAD: It's very busy! There are a lot of administration duties that I see to every day. Most times they keep me from being able to just "play" like everyone else. A: What is your brother Albus Dumbledore? P: Like most older brothers are - very protective, acts like he knows more than I do, & generally tries to get under my skin. A: Do you have any other brothers or sisters? P: No, thank Merlin! A: If so, what are they like? P: n/a |

| Mistress Queenie's Guide to World Domination
By Gryffindor's benevolent despot, Audrea Martin Ever wondered what it takes to be a dictator? Are you the kind of person who is always seeking power and to dominate those around you? Well, here's some help. Whether you're looking to be in charge of a group of your friends, or take over the world, take some advice from a real genius. (And maybe some guest writers later on) Lesson 1: Gaining power IT is typically best to begin attaining power through some normal means. For me, becoming Prefect (and later senior prefect) gave me the edge I needed to become the first Her Royal and Most Senior Prefectiness. If there are no prefect positions available, don't despair, and don't wait! Start by taking over the Quidditch team or something else in your common room. Even leading a club can give you the edge you need to become your house's next supreme ruler. If that fails, you should probably just give up and maybe I'll let you join me. (Actually, that's probably a wise decision anyway). Hope you learned something! Watch for next month's installment in the Owl Gazette! |
