There's More To May Than Memorial Day! And The Last of School
By Hermy Granger

Most months have one major holiday and you think that's it. Well there are many holidays for each day, and if they were all celebrated, you wouldn't have and school!

Some of the funnier observances it is are:
It's Clean Air Month,
Learn German Month,
National Arthritis Month,
National Bike Month,
And National Correct Posture Month!

Seriously. Who thinks up these things?

May 1 to 7 is Eat Dessert Week
May 6 to 12 is National Hug Holiday Week
May 21 to 27 is National Etiquette Week

And now for the funniest, the days.

Mother Goose Day is May 1
So is Save the Rhinos Day and Stepmother's Day
May 5 is Free Comic Book Day
May 6 is Doo Dah Day
May 6 is No Homework Day
May 12 is National Nutty Fudge Day
May 18 is National Pizza Party Day
May 23 is National Taffy Day
And then.. May 30 is Memorial Day.
April Fools In the GCR
By Fiona Chauvet

Another April Fools has come and gone, and it certainly was a fun one in the Gryffindor common room. Our Prefect, Kristin surprised us all by DYING her brown hair blonde, and a few people decided to switch places for the day. Gawyn dressed as Hermy and Hermy dressed as Gawyn, which was very entertaining for us all to see. Rose dyed her hair green, which was also entertaining to see, and our Head of House, Professor Opal decided to dye her hair bright pink! Hermy wanted to give us all a scare by pretending to announce her leaving the lions den, but thankfully it was all a joke. Nice one Hermy! tongue.gif Yes, it was a fun April Fools day in the Gryffindor common room and I cant wait until next year!
Muggle Learning Brought to Hogwarts
By Rose Wick

Most of you, I am sure, barely remember your muggle schools after arriving at Hogwarts. But there is one student among us who hasn't forgotten. In fact, he's brought the learning to our very own school! But who is this student? None other than Vicktor Krum, Gryffindor.

It all started out with minds. If you read 'The Fascination of Minds', Kimmie Brandon's article from the previous issue, you will know what I'm talking about. So, one day, Vicktor opened up his own mind called 'Krums Complicated Mind' in the Gryffindor Common Room. Curious, one student went to check it out. Inside were, not spells, or even spam, but math problems! But that's only how it started. Soon after that, Vicktor posted links to a site about something called 'The String Theory'. I still don't get it myself, but that's just me.

Currently, Vicktor has been posting ideas for 'discussions' on these topics. But don't think you are being left out or saved from all this from not being in Gryffindor. Recently, he has posted an area with the same title in 'Chit Chat' on the Bulletin Board. Go on, and check it out!
Guten Tag!
By Hermy Granger

Sprechen Sie Deutsch?
I know I don't! Don't speak German, for that matter. May is National Learn German Month, so I'm going to please you all with some German words and phrases.

Pommes frites are French Fries
Tausend is a thousand
Hallo! is hi/hello
ich liebe dich mean I love you
Hilfe is Help!
lachen is laughing
Ich wei nicht, wie ich mich verhalten soll . I don't know how to behave!

As if any of you would try and use these, but here you go!

Professor Opal or the woman behind the mask
By Kimmie Brandon

Professor Opal, Head of Gryffindor and probably the most wonderful person I've met so far, seems to have a secret. How come I think something like this? Ha, that's pretty obviousor not. Let me explain.

If you paid attention to the ongoing threads on the BB, you might have noticed a certain topic there, where students of our school have given the smilies names. Yes, I am serious. Despite the fact that I have no idea how in the world someone might want to name smilies, it happened and we are forced to deal with it. But let's go back to Professor Opal.

This woman has been given a smilie on her own. Fairly deserved you might think, and I agree, however the smilie itself seems to not fit at all when you see which one is supposed to be her. I think everyone knows the smilie with the black mask, so may I introduce: this is Professor Opal.

STOP laughing! That's not funny! : P Ok, it isbut don't tell anyone. xD
Anyhow, at first I didn't get why this is supposed to be Professor Opal, however, after taking some time and spending some days in thoughts about the reasons of this, I came to the conclusion, that my Head of House is hiding something from us.

Well, obviously some students know about her secret, but I haven't had the pleasure of finding out about this one yet. I repeat: yet! Be sure that I won't stop to search for the reason until I found out what this woman is hiding. Why I want to find out? Pft, I am curious! And my chances to find out about it are even better, since Professor Opal only recently opened up her very own spamming place in the Gryffindor Common room. Be on the lookout when I shall return with the shocking news! Until then I beg for help. But don't tell her. ; )
April Fools Owl Gazette
By Ava Black

Many of us had a blast with Pads April Fools joke on the Bulletin Board. She announced that the Owl Gazettes latest issue was up and everyone went running off to see what was in the issue. The joke was it was not in fact the Owl Gazette at all but a little video featuring Professor Snape. I know I speak for many when I say I laughed heartily at the video. Good thing OUR Professor Snape can take a good joke!
A Posting Champion
By Fiona Chauvet

Hermy_own has been on a posting spree lately in the Gryffindor common room. In our last house Post-a-thon, Hermy made the most posts, raking in more then 2000 posts. Shes been quickly moving her way up our list of the biggest posters in the common room and I personally believe she has her eye on the top of the list. With the way shes been posting lately, I think she can make it, even though she still has quite a bit ahead of her. I bet in no time shell be one of the top posters in our common room. So keep an eye out for Hermy_own! I believe in you, Hermy! Airys #1!!
If a Lion Was Stranded on a Desert Island
By Fiona Chauvet

I have to admit; I like asking random questions in my house and seeing the responses I get from people. This time I asked my housemates if they were stranded on a desert island, and could only bring 5 items with them, what would they bring? What I got back was pretty interesting.

Gawyn Crossguard was very practical and said he would bring a first aid kit, a field knife, a flint and steel fire starter, a mess kit and a compass. It sounds like everything an outdoorsman would bring. Stephanie Nicholson said she would bring a change of clothes, an intense first aid kit, a heavy duty fishing pole and hooks, a signal blanket and Gawyn because she thought he sounded like he knew what he was doing.

Kimmie Brandon went the magical route and decided to bring her wand, tons of books and Droobles Best Blowing Gum, parchment, quill and ink, an owl to send letters, and of course, Gawyn! Leah Black decided on a change of clothes also, deodorant, her iPod, a raft and Stephanie because she was bringing Gawyn. Hermy decided on simpler items and said shed only bring her iPod, some books and some clothes.
Why we love Fred
By Fiona Chauvet

So do you know who Fred is? No, hes not a student, but maybe he should be. Fred is the hyper smiley that everyone has come to love. He even has his own topic in the Gryffindor common room! Believe it or not its almost reached fifty pages, and not slowing down yet. So why is this hyper guy so loved in the lions den? Well, hes just so much fun- thats why! Rose Wick and Hermy_own are the creators of the Fred Thread, and are probably two of his biggest fans. So jump on the wagon and be a Fred Fan. Youll see how much fun it is when you do, and you can thank me later!=P
To Dye For
By Fiona Chauvet

In the Gryffindor common room, dying your hair has been the new in thing to do. Professor Opal dyed her hair bright pink for April Fools day and Kristin dyed her hair blonde. Theyve kept their colors since and even posted polls on whether they should keep their new looks or not. Most of us agreed that although we do love the pink on Professor Opal, we love her as a blonde even more. Although Gawyn, being so in-touch with what looks good (hehe), suggested she leave a little hot pink in her hair. So far weve suggested Kristin do the same thing, leave a little blonde in her hair. Well, well wait and see whether the two of them leave their looks the way they are, or decide to change. xD
A Dilemma of the Heart
By an Anonymous Hufflepuff

It seems that Ron Weasley, AKA the Hufflepuff Heartthrob has finally come upon a real dilemma concerning some of the girls around the house. He had started off dating Ciria Crescentlight and they eventually broke up and he moved on to Cassidy Smith, but after she got ate by Professor Snape he was forced to find yet another girl to hang around with. We know that he has lately spent a lot of time with the houses senior prefect, Zoey Taylor. The two have been seen hanging out together and causing a bit of mischief in the process. Hes also been seen in the presence of one of the Hufflepuffs PAs Maya Parker. And Ive even heard that the two of them even went out on an actual date. But Ive also been told that the boy has been spending a lot of time talking to the both of them, and is having trouble deciding which one hed like to be with. Eventually both of the girls told him that hed have to make a choice and he reportedly made up at least twenty excuses as to why he should be with each of them. And to add to the dilemma, ex-girlfriend Ciria has recently come back into the picture. So now it seems the boy is stuck between three girls. I dont know what hes going to do about it but I think he should make up his mind pretty quick before hes left with no one and possibly loses his title that he has apparently grown to love.
Hogwarts Hearsay
By Zoey Taylor

This month Id like to discuss one of my housemates, Mr. Kamron Flame. As many of you whove been here a while know, one Roger Davies used to have the hearts of many girls here around the castle. But over the past several months it seems hes been replaced by Kamron. I cant go into the entire girls hes dated and gone to dances and such with because theres been so many I cant keep up. But I do know that he really did seem to have something going on with Amanda Dasaro as they were just about to have an actual wedding. And after talking with him a lot Ive managed to find out that the girl he is after now, and has been for a while is none other than our head girl Ava Black. Although he still takes every opportunity possible to dance with all the girls at dances, and even gives lots of girls presents and such. It seems hes gotten pretty good at wooing girls lately, but fair warning to all of you, watch out. If youre not careful hell woo you until you think youve got him and then suddenly go after some other girl and leave you all heartbroken. The only reason I can think of for him acting this way is that hes been in the same house with Professor Lockhart for too long, now he thinks that everyone will adore him and he can do whatever he wants. But I know he wont be getting me anytime soon no matter what all he tells anyone.
Getting to Know Hufflepuff
By Adrianna La Cerva

The Hufflepuff house is made of numerous students, all from different walks of life. Recently weve welcomed many new students to our common room and one of them is none other than Alex Potter. I got a chance to catch up with Alex and ask him a few questions
AL: Let me start off by asking what year you are in at Hogwarts?
AP: I am a first year, I was actually kind of disappointed when I got ze letter... I didn'z want zo come, but I was zalked in zo it.

AL: Speaking of which, tell us a bit about your family background.
AP: I am not sure about my fazers side of ze family, but on my mozers side, zey are all pure bloods, I have a long line of aunts, uncles, cuzins, I know I have a sister, zough I zon't know who she is, I also have a little brother, he's at home with his dad. Our mom was murdered.

AP: I zink if I wasn'z placed in Hufflepuff, I would of probably be put in Penshire; but I zink ze sorting hat was right, Zere is no other house for me but Hufflepuff.
AL: So you must be pretty creative then to believe youd be placed in Penshire?
AP: I do aloz of drawings, none very good, but yes.
AL: Besides drawing, what else do you do for fun?
AP: I don'z mind a game of wizards chess for fun.
AL: Thank you Alex for taking time to meet with me and letting the rest of the students get to know you better.
AP: Zanks again for inzerveiwing me.
Roaming the RPGs
By Ronald Weasley

Since Hufflepuff won the Quidditch match against Ravenclaw 2 weeks ago, Zoey Taylor threw a big Quidditch celebration party. People from all over the house have joined the party. Some joined that didnt even see the game for various reasons. This party was a party to end all parties.

The party contained all the necessities that any blooming party needs to become a big bash and more. The one thing Zoey Taylor is good at is making a wild party bash. Even 2 weeks later, Professor yells at the students to turn the music down so they can get to sleep. (Mostly Prof. Lockhart though). These kids sure know how to party. From dancing to chatting, to eatingThese kids know how to make a successful and never ending party. Who knows, the party might go on for a couple more weeks.
