| *Gryffindor's Newbies*
By Megan Miller It seems that over the past month, Gryffindor has not gained many new members, only three to be exact. We welcome Anatascia Carter, Milo Velasco and Hallie Wetherbee, nonetheless. This reporter is pretty sure that there are other new members, but they have not introduced them to the rest of the house yet and are hiding in the shadows. Of course, this reporter doesn't blame them since being a first year, especially when you're not exactly sure what to expect, can be rather overwhelming. All we here in Gryffindor can say to those shy new students is that we hope to see them out and about sometime soon and as for the newbies, who have introduced themselves, welcome once again! We look forward to having more contributors towards earning the House Cup! |

| Dear Alba,
There is this guy that I really like. I asked him out and he says it's a good idea because he likes me too. The only problem is, 1.his parents wont let him date until he is 16 (he just turned 15 June 28th) and 2. his parents won't let him date me until I get to high school (I'm 2 years younger and we've been friends for about 2 years) He said he would wait and I said I would wait...this was ok...for a while. Then I met this guy on my team(my school is separated into teams) and I started to get a crush on him. Now I really like him, but I promised the other guy that I would wait. I was willing to wait before, but now that I think about it, I would have to wait 2 years!! Now I like this other guy too and I'm really confused on what I should do!!! I NEED HELP!!!!!!! Signed, Eirlys Dear Eirlys, I certainly understand why you would want to wait for this fellow until he's old enough (in his parents' mind) to date, but I also understand how sometimes meeting new people can change our minds about things. If you were open enough with the first boy to talk about waiting for 2 years, you should be able to be open enough with him to tell him you've met someone that you'd like to date now. If he truly cares for you he will understand & not take it personally. So, whether he bids you good luck or good riddance, at least you were honest with him about the situation & will be free to date whomever you wish with a clear conscience. Best of luck to you! Signed, Alba --------------- Dear Alba, since I'm a very impatient person I entered two different sorting forms with different characters with the same e-mail is that going to be a problem??? Signed, Bella Dear Bella, Actually we have lots of newbies who do this because they think it will speed up my ability to get to their sorting quiz faster! Unfortunately it doesn't. Anyway, when the Sorting Hat sees a sorting is turned in with either the same e-mail address or username as a previous one, the hat always sends a memo stating that this information was sent in already & gives instructions on what to do if: 1.) You took the quiz again because you were unhappy with your house placement 2.) You took the quiz again because you want to RP with multiple characters or 3.) One of your friends or family members are trying to get sorted using your e-mail address Usually this will resolve the issue of duplicate information being used & everyone lives happily ever after! LOL!See you in the halls! Signed, Alba ----------------------- Dear Alba, My niece is now living near me and she is going to go to my school when it starts but when ever she comes over she goes through my stuff and she sometimes destroys my things. My parents think that she's jealous of me because I have a better life then she does. I don't know how I'm going to deal with her in school. Signed, Syco Dear Syco, Well, unless she ends up in the same classes you're in or you have free periods or lunch together you probably won't have to deal with her at all. I wouldn't get worked up just yet until you know how much time you'll be stuck with her. Keep smiling! Signed, Alba |

| *Gryffindor's New Prefect Assistants!*
By Megan Miller Some of you may have noticed a new member group within your house common rooms called 'Prefect Assistant.' The reasons for this is because Professor Dumbledore allowed each of the three prefects from all five houses choose two other students from their houses to assist them in running the common room and house. The Prefect Assistants will have no special position on the BB or any other board except the CRs. They will not be in the staff lounge or the staff listing in the Administrative office, but they will have some moderation powers in the CRs. If a prefect is gone or needs help on a special project, that's where the Prefect Assistants come in. They won't be running around on their own doing everything (at least they shouldn't be) but basically do the things the prefects need their help on to make each house better. It was a hard choice, but after much deliberation, Gryffindor's new Prefect Assistants are *Leah Black* and *Adrianna La Cerva!* We're sure that these girls will do an excellent job with their new positions and we wish them the best of luck. |

| *Gryffindor's October Post-a-thon*
By Megan Miller This month's post-a-thon was a big success. During the summer, a Trio Tournament was started, and this month's post-a-thon was considered a team event, which were selected and assigned based on those students who had signed up for the Trio Tournament when it began. Post-a-thons are taken very seriously in Gryffindor as they bring in a lot of points depending on the total number of posts...and since this was considered a Trio Tournament Event, the results pushed all participants forward in the tournament. For the next few days, Gryffindors old and new went posting crazy...posting every minute of every day, every chance they got. We had both a team winner, and individual winners. Team Standings: Group D-8528 Group B- 4053 Group C- 3105 Group E-2244 Group A- 873 Individual Winners: Linda Danes - 6,900 posts Leah Black - 4,030 posts Adrianna La Cerva - 2,384 posts Felicity Hedwig - 1,618 posts Audrea Martin - 995 posts Megan Miller - 904 posts Aerwin Turner - 873 posts Kristin Johnson - 716 posts Josh - 343 posts Roxanne Whitez - 23 posts Manda Black - 5 posts This month's post-a-thon was a great success. Thank you to all participants and good luck as the Trio Tournament progresses. |

| Halloween Reminders
By Adrianna La Cerva The Ministry of Magic would like to gently remind citizens of the magical community of proper code of conduct to be followed on the festive muggle holiday known as Halloween. Halloween is the one night where witches and wizards can go out into the muggle world in their normal attire. While that is a pleasant change from our normal disguises, we must ask that our citizens take care when they associate with people they don't know. Muggles celebrate Halloween by dressing in various disguises, among which are witches and wizards. So take care and use caution when conversing with people you don't know. Discretion must still be used on the night of Halloween; we can not risk revealing our existence to the muggle world. Of course, should such an instance occur, there will be a team of members on call to modify muggle memories if necessary. If you do intend to participate in muggle festivities, be sure to ONLY hand out muggle candies. There will be severe punishment for those handing out canary creams and chocolate frogs to muggles. The Ministry is advising families to hand out Snickers, a popular muggle candy that will in no way attract suspicion from the other world. If you have any question on where to purchase such muggle candy, you can contact the ministry. We wish everyone a safe and discrete Halloween. |

| The First Quidditch Match
Beonca Aims The House of Penshire, voted best Quidditch Team for the year 2005 - 2006 on the Hogwart's Choice Awards, had never won a game all season. The House of Slytherin, on the other hand, holds the Quidditch Cup for the same season, and has had the Cup in two other terms. A strong team, to be sure, however, on the first game of the 2006 - 2007 season, Penshire and Slytherin met on the Quidditch Pitch with something each had to prove. It seems, Penshire worked hard over the summer term to improve their teamwork and strategy, while Slytherin lost most of it strong players and had issues among the members that needed resolved. New players and captains were seen on both teams, but it was proved that those who practice would win out. We tip our hats has the House of Penshire and it seemed fitting, somehow, that their first win, ever, would be against the team to beat. We hereby warn other houses, Penshire, this year seems to be the house to beat and mark our words, Slytherin is growing! and working hard to build its team. Once that is done, the Cup will not be given up so easier this year, though, this first game looked otherwise. |

| Finally!!
By Ava Black The first match of the season was between Slytherin and Penshire. Both teams fought hard and Penshire came home with the victory! What an exciting day for all of Penshire to have won their first match in the house's history!! It was a hard year last year without winning a single match! The team threw a huge victory party in the Common Room to celebrate! Then of course team captain Bryony Casten reminded everyone that they had to practice again early the next morning. Even the thought of rising before dawn couldn't dampen the Cranes' spirits! I hope that this is only the beginning of a very successful season! |

| Still on the stands
By MoD I figure you have been to a Quidditch- match before, right? Hm. That one lately Ravenclaw vs. Gryffindor can you imagine that this has been the first Quidditch-match I have ever been to? Probably not, but still. When you come down to the Quidditch-pitch, you enter this complete different world, the air is full of excitement and in the blink of an eye you find yourself amidst of a cheering crowd. Some cheering in a way, that I would have never imagined. I heard some cheers, accompanied by some cheering moves and I even saw a student dressed like a lion. This was some view. However, when I finally managed to take a seat, I started to watch the game. This looks odd for someone like me after all you need to watch the skies, unlike games that are played on solid ground. But worst, players were hurt. In my opinion, it's not great if the game you play is some kind of harmful to you as a player, but those flying around on their brooms looked like 'I don't care about it' after wincing a bit. That was something that impressed me. Those girls and boys seem to have so much fun; they actually forget about the pain, they should feel when they are hit by that one thing called Bludger. When I looked around the stands at the different faces of the audience, they all seemed more shocked that a player had been attacked than about the fact that he or she could be injured. But, to my great relief, I saw the school nurse, Madame Pomfrey, watching the game, too. With a nurse, knowing what there is to do when someone gets injured; I was more relaxed and continued watching the game. The Quaffle, a red ball, was thrown from player to player, intercepted and given forward so fast, that I had some problems to see who was in possession of the ball several times during the match. I would have never thought that a game could be played at such pace but still exactly this was the thing that was interesting to watch. At each attempt to score, I crossed my fingers for the players that it would get in, but not all shots went in. There were clearly differences visible between each goal-keeper, even visible for me with being so much as not able to tell who is good and who's not. However, at every goal a team made, the stands erupted with cheers from the supporting side and with boooos from the opponent side. It was fascinating to watch and to listen to. At the end of the game, however, I noticed a sudden increasing of speed, as two little players on their brooms beat their brooms to the edge of possibility to catch one little thing: the golden Snitch. This ball is so tiny and fast that I still wonder how someone is even able to see this thing. No matter what, catching this ball ends up the game and gains the team catching it 150 points. The cheering was incredible, the booos also, but still you have to cheer when you get there and find yourself amidst of the stands. Well, I stayed there, long after the pitch was empty and although the weather was windy and cold and everything. I just sat there, still seeing the players racing around and playing and wondering how it was possible that I had missed one of the most interesting games I had seen until that very moment. I became a true Quidditch-Fan high on the stands. And wouldn't I have been so hungry and out without my wand, I would still sit there: on the stands. |
