The use of Odissi Mrudanga in Odissi classical dance.

Sharmila studied the art of Mrudanga - one of the traditional percussion instruments of Orissa, and explored the possibility of incorporating this rich tradition into Odissi classical dance. She has choreographed two dance productions based on Mrudanga - The Dance We Dance and Murchhana. These two dance productions  have been presented in many prestigious festivals of India and gained considerable appreciation.
