Llama Gaits
The gait is a particular movement of limb sequence of the Llama. There are 5 distinctive gaits of the llama that are natural.

A four beat walk in which the three feet are on the ground always. The weight is evenly distributed on the three feet on the ground. The walk is the slowest gait of the animal.
2. PACE Click hear to view a pacing llama (requires Quicktime)
A two beat gait. The front and the hind legs on the same side move together. This is a medium pace speed gait of the Lama
3. TROT Click hear to view a troting llama (requires Quicktime)
A two beat gait, the opposite front and the hind legs move forward together. The left front and the right hind legs are on the ground while the right front and left legs are moving forward.
4. GALLOP Click hear to view a galloping llama (requires Quicktime)
A three beat gait in which one set of legs are on a diagonal move forward and come down together while the other two legs land separately. This is the fastest gait in the Llama. It is similar to a canter in horses.
5. PRONK
A single beat stiff-legged gait. The llama propels itself through the air. All four feet leave the ground. They all land at the same time. Pronking is used to keep predators away and also in their play. Crias also pronk when they play.
