Next Stop Sweden

A cold, bleak Thursday winter's evening in March, people started arriving in Sweden from various corners of the world, all making their way to Helene's place in Stockholm. Helene - the hostess of the mostest of this year's Easter Reunion - soon saw her cosy little Swedish flat infested with smelly ex-tramping club members who made themselves at home as they nested for the night on floors, tables and sofas.

Next morning, we packed up the rental cars with food and people - all very organised and grown up - and we headed for the beautiful Swedish countryside, picking up Jake and Beks on the way. Our destination was the lakes, rivers and forests in the countryside west of Stockholm (past Vaesteraas, close to Skinskatteberg). Enjoying the crisp, bright sunny day and the ABBA sing-alongs in the car, we travelled through the Swedish countryside which was covered by sparkling carpets of snow.

First stop was a walk around this magnificent viking site

A couple hours later, we arrived at our idyllic, typical Swedish country house - complete with sauna, multiple bedrooms and beds, so all 18 of us could sleep there! It even had a swimming pool somewhere under the snow in front of the house! We indulged in Swedish countryside luxury from the minute we got there (well done, Helene!). This especially involved doing jigsaw puzzles!

Welcome!

Swedish countryside (view from the house)!

That's what happens if you use the swimming pool in winter!

They used to go tramping when they were young. Now they go to country cottages and do jigsaw puzzles instead.

More Swedish scenery
Next morning (Saturday), we headed out for a day tramp in the snow.

Snow just adds another dimension to tramping - especially when Ingo is there!

Miss Sweden and Miss India with a touch of NZ
Back at the house, we wined and dined on Indian Curry cooked by Helene and team, and followed it up with several rounds on MAFIA and famous people games. Can someone please think up some new games for next year?!!! Of course, the jigsaw puzzles also sucked in a few addicts.
