A shaliach, people who are shlichim are emissaries sent out by government and quasi-governmental organizations or private or public companies in order to represent then abroad in Jewish religious or national issues and affairs.

They are typically sent out for one to three years years, but the age is not a requirement, it could be any amount of time as arranged with the shaliach.

The Chabad/Lubavitch emissaries are called shluchim.

These are trained before they go out and they are usually asked to maintain contact with the organization. They are resources to people in other countries.
