Bring It On

1st day of Resplendant Water, 768
14th of June, 2003

  • A month before hand, a young girl vanished from the village
  • After searching for weeks, the village had finally given up, and set about catching up on the preparations for winter
  • Since Fang had become too ill, c'Tolan, Handur and Jebu had been asked to help on his farm
  • During the evening meal, c'Tolan, Dianh and Jebu noticed a strange green light in the distance
  • Handur, meanwhile, noticed his food - thus begining a tradition of Anthony botching any unimportant roll
  • The group, at the request of Fang, headed off to investigate the light
  • Thanks to a combination of Dianh's woodland skills and c'Tolan's ability to see in the dark, the group had little trouble navigating through forest
  • It became apparent that Fang's fear that the light indicated someone was at the gold mine was wrong. The group discovered the light was coming from an old grave yard
  • c'Tolan approached the graveyard alone
  • With the shifting of the wind, his ears caught a whisper of "yes"
  • c'Tolan spotted a figure standing before one of the graves. After a moment, the figure vanished
  • The group investigated, and discovered that several of the graves had been unearthed
  • The gave the strange man was standing before apparently beloned to a monk
  • The next morning Jebu and c'Tolan did some research in the monastery records
  • They discovered that the monk had come to the monastery to hide an artifact that allowed the binding of powerful demons
  • After advising Master Eman of what they had learnt, Master Eman agreed to move the artifact (a small chime) from a store room and place it under guard
  • Later, the characters became lost in the woods, and stumbled across a barely conscious man
  • Before the man passed out, he warned the group that an army was approaching the village
  • After returning to the village, the man was identified as a miner who had vanished three years earlier
  • With forces from nearby Gunada and the monastery, the locals set about preparing to defend their village. It was assumed that the army would be coming through the mountains, so the most likely path for them would be the Greater Dragon Pass
  • The group, along with 12 others, were sent to guard the Lesser Dragon Pass, just in case
  • As it turned out, a massive army of undead turned out the not be using either pass, but instead poured out of the gold mine. The army was lead by the mysterious man from the grave yard
  • During the battle, Dianh, Jebu and Handur all Exalted
  • Handur managed to bring down the entrance to the mine
  • The myserious man, fighting both Jebu and c'Tolan sank into the ground and escaped them
  • The group were the only survivors. Handur and Jebu fled to the monastery, while Dianh ran into the woods
  • c'Tolan, convinced his wife had returned from the grave, persuied Dianh, but eventually lost her
  • c'Tolan headded to the monastery, and warned the ranking monk there to keep Handur and Jebu under "subtle guard". He did not reveal what they had become.
  • c'Tolan then headed to the Greater Dragon Pass to inform the others what had happened
  • The monks attempted to drug Jebu and Handur. Jebu was suspicious of the meal - why would such an important monk be serving him, an initiate, a meal? - and so declined to eat. Handur, on the other hand, emptied his bowl and fell into a deep sleep - proving that Handur would be lucky to notice if he was on fire
  • Dianh spent the night hiding in the woods
  • c'Tolan warned Master Eman what had happened to Handur and Jebu, and when they returned to the monastery, they proceeded to question the blacksmith and the initiate
  • After several hours, they were satisified that they hadn't turned into demons - yet
  • Meanwhile, Dianh awoke and started walking home
  • She spotted the mysterious man from the grave yard heading towards the monastery
  • She followed him, and watched as he broke inside
  • He headded for the store room
  • After searching for an hour, the man became enraged and left (still with Dianh trailing him
  • She followed him up to another room, but when she heard more footsteps behind her, she hid in a side door
  • The others, along with Master Eman and several monks had come to check on the chime. When they arrived, they spotted the mysterious man breaking into the room
  • The mysterious man grabbed the chime and leaped from the window. c'Tolan managed to knock him down a gully - by using a paint brush and an antique bow
  • c'Tolan, Jebu and a pair of monks persued the man, and he and c'Tolan engaged in single combat
  • After being disarmed, the man refused to surrender, and fired a bone dart at c'Tolan. It struck, but the poison had no effect
  • Again, c'Tolan offered the man a chance to surrender, but when he attempted to attack again, c'Tolan cut his head off
  • The chime was recovered, and the body was taken to the morgue for examination
  • The man was wearing a soulsteel breastplate, which Master Eman quickly secured
  • The man also had an ancient tome, which c'Tolan managed to pocket without anyone else noticing
