| Brandon's Life Story |
| A Day in the Life of Brandon Brandon was born at Three Rivers Community Hospital Dimmick Campus and was a guest of the maternity ward for two full days. Since I had tested positive for the Group B Strep, it was necessary that the nurses monitor him every few hours for signs of an infection. He was a wonderful baby always giving the nurses his full attention whenever they came in to get vital signs or draw blood. He would just beam with happiness and just be watching every action around him. The only hassle he caused was with his little beanie hat. He hated that darn thing! He would squirm and wiggle until he managed to get his hat off. I got lectured more times about the importance of him keeping a hat on his head to protect from draft and heat loss than I care to remember. To keep that beanie on thought would mean to almost tape it to his head. It just wasnt happening. Brandon loved to be walked around the room and even through the halls. It was like he knew that he needed to absorb all he could. We had many visitors during our stay. Grammas and Grampa, aunts and uncles, cousins and friends galore would come by to greet Brandon and they would instantly fall in love. Big brother Calvin sure loved to show him off. When Brandon and I were released from the hospital, we came home and waited for Calvin to arrive from school. It was a warm and sunny day so we stood at the bus stop and waited for the bus which allowed Calvin to show off his baby brother yet again; this time to all his school buddies and friends in the complex. Shortly after Calvins arrival, we made our first of what was an almost daily journey to Wal-Mart. Brandon loved going shopping! It was an opportunity for him to see more of the world around him. I think he just liked all the attention he got from the store greeters, employees we knew and customers. The only time he fussed was when Mom insisted he had to stay in the car seat/carrier. He preferred to be carried. Church was a big event for Brandon too. He went to services the first time when he was just four days old. The only Sunday he missed was over the Fourth of July holiday weekend. That service was outside at a local park and the weather was rather cold and windy. Brandon loved church. He would sleep so peacefully during worship but fuss during the message. I believe he had a special calling from God and that is why he was always so peaceful when worship music was played. Since Brandon was the baby brother, we had to do a lot of things with and for Big Brother Calvin. Twice a day trips to Cub Scout Day Camp, playing games and all the other necessary mommy sharing. We also had many trips to the grandparents homes as his maternal grandparents and paternal grandma all live about five minutes away in some direction. Brandon spent quite a bit of time in the doctor's office too. With his one-week and two weeks check up, his circumcision appointment and then we shared thrush and finally he ended up with ear infections when I suffered from a sinus infection. Brandon was basically a great baby. He nursed every 2 -4 hours around the clock. He took several naps a day and still let mom get some sleep at night sometimes. I think he enjoyed listening to Cartoon Network in the middle of the night; he was always up during certain shows regardless of the timing of his sleep time. And then then came his angel day........ |
