God In The Age Of Technology
In a secular society such as we live in today, where is there room for God? In an age full of electronic miracles and the information superhighway, is there room for the concepts of faith and spirituality? Are we growing more arrogant in our technology and accomplishments assuming that man, in his limited brilliance, can supplant the Divine Creator of the Universe? Sadly, the answer on all counts, is Yes.

We, as a nation, are moving further and further away from God as our technological capabilities expand our exploration of the Universe in which we inhabit continues beyond our Solar System. Technology and Science are rapidly replacing God and Spirituality in our secular society. We live in an age of instant information and instant gratification. The average human attention span has been dumbed down to eight minutes; just enough time for sponsors to fit in several commercials in between scenes of a mindless sitcom. The human race has become nothing more than a mass of programmed skeptics fed on a diet of instant technological gratification in the forms of video games, computer games, and cable television. The simple msyteries and wonders of God and faith have been cast aside as archaic beliefs of a long time gone from an age of ignorance. Science has begun supplanting spirituality.

When man, in his arrogance, attempts to create life, prevent the conception of life terminate life on a whim, we, as a species, turn our back on the natural order of God's plan. Man as a species can never understand or attempt to match the intellect of a being that made everything!! Only in our arrogance do we dismiss God and his notions, assuming that we know better. We do not!! Technology is a double edged sword. The same blade that gives us the miracles of medicine and comfort to slash disease and poverty can also be used for great evil. This technology can cut us apart from only the scientific and cutting us off from our inner voice and forever silence our souls to serve only the scientific and cutting us off from His love and guiding hand. Technological advancement needs to be tempered with the guided hand of faith and morality. Just because we can do something doesn't mean we have the moral grounds to do so. It's at times of moral crisis that technology must yield to a higher sense of right and wrong. The cold hard facts of science lack the genunine warmth and compassion that God placed in her hearts so that we'd know the difference between right and wrong. Pure science is a cold study, bereft of compassion and understanding. Faith and spirituality are products of God's love for all of us, his children. As we turn our backs on these two elements, we turn our backs on the Creator.

Ironically, even in such a technological society, when terrible tragedies happen, man wonders why God could let such a travesty happen. Man even uses tragedy to disprove His existence altogether; If God existed, He wouldn't allow such a thing to happen.

Where was God when this tragedy occured??

The answer is simple and doesn't require a scientist, it simply requires faith. God was there and God took those shouls to a better place, with Him. Cold, hard science and technology can't explain God and faith, these aren't things that can be measured and/ or quanitified, they're matters of heart, a product of our humanity, something fading in the age of the machine.

In this age of technology, where the machine and science is rapidly supplanting God, I'll fall to my knees and cast my eyes toward the stars, not looking for answers, but simply reveling in all God's wonders and marveling at a plan I'll never be aple to comprehend in my short lifetime, but knowing, if I'm worthy, when I see His face, I'll have my answers. I can't explain these feelings in technical terms. I can't rationalize these feelings when I watch the stars at night. It's simply my faith that God is still out there waiting, watching and hoping more people look to him when, in this age of technology, men can no longer find their hearts.
