On the first day I found out that the snails liked eating chalk, so I did a little experiment:
Hypothesis: To see weather the snail's poo turns the colour of the food it eats. Apparatus: 1 live snail 1 piece of chalk (I used orange & white chalk) 1 aquarium
Procedure: 1. Put the snail and the chalk in the aquarium.
2. Wait a day or two till the snail eats the chalk.
3. Wait till the end of the next day and see what colour the poo is.
Result: I saw that the colour of the poo depends on the food he eats. For example: If it eats cabbage than the poo will be green and if he eats an orange than the poo will be orange.
I watched my snail eat some chalk, it's really cute its like she sticks out her tongue and scrapes it up against the food and then put it back into its mouth. After that she went to sleep (I suppose to help her digest).
Today I put a baby snail in the tank to see if Cynthia will protect it like a baby. I hope she does
I called the baby Sprint (for the joke)
Today Sprint sprinted all around the aquarium 3 times without stopping. She was going up, around, down, around & back up again. He has a lot of energy.
I suppose the name Sprint suites her well. I think she might of tried to find a way out.
Today I saw the opposite of yesterday. Cynthia was going round and round the aquarium while Sprint was sleeping.
Today I found out that babies are cuter than the adults because the adults have darker skin, look a lot fatter & are a lot slower. Sprint is also a lot more energetic.
Today I saw that Cynthia and Sprint are having races around the aquarium. They did about four laps before getting tired and going to sleep. Guess what Sprint lost by a couple of minutes (She probably got tired).
Today I took them to school. They all of a sudden got into the habit of sleeping all day. Today Dimity also brought her bigger type of snail to school. So my snails would probably be scared of them.
Today my snails were just sitting there with their heads poking out. They were probably bored out of their minds because they were just sitting down there & not moving a muscle.
Today I took my snails back home. They missed their spot near the window very much. Today I gave them fresh new leaves, cleaned their cage and watched them. They went straight to the eating part. I was happy that they were eating because they haven't been eating since day 7.
Today I found out that Cynthia likes to be in this one high spot. So I did a little experiment:
Hypothesis: To see if Cynthia would go back to the space she liked if you move her.
Apparatus:
1 biosphere with a snail in it,
2 rubber gloves,
Procedure:
1. Wait for the snail (in my case Cynthia) to go up to the top of the Biosphere,
2. Pick the snail up and put her in the bottom of the biosphere & see if the
snail goes all the way back up to the top of the biosphere.
3. If the snail goes
back up, then try and put the snail in an open box & see if it goes out of
the box and climbs back to the top of the biosphere.
Result: I found out that Cynthia (my snail) likes to be at the top of the biosphere. I put her in the most awkward positions (including under a pile of leaves) and Cynthia still managed to get back to the top of the Biosphere were she liked it. Altogether I did the experiment about 12 times.
Today Sprint started to chase Cynthia around the Biosphere while Cynthia was just sleeping so Sprint was just going on top of Cynthia. It looks as though Sprint thinks that Cynthia is her mother. Well maybe she is, all I did was find them & put this in their biosphere.
Today Cynthia decided to go on an eating spree. She was eating all day. Funnily enough she only ate chalk (I thought that she liked leaves more). To find out more about this I looked on the Internet and I saw that chalk was like a sweat for snails. So that explains why my snails like eating chalk so much.
Today I made a timetable, which the snails usually follow:
9:00 am
Snails are sleeping
10:00 am Still sleeping
11:00 am Snails stick their heads
out of their shells
12:00 pm Snails eat breakfast
1:00 pm They go back to sleep
2:00 pm Still sleeping
3:00 pm Eat dinner
Today Sprint was taking a taxi ride. He had a little sleep on Cynthia's back while Cynthia was taking a strole through the beads that I put in. I guess that Sprint was feeling a bit lazy today. I think that Sprint has an advantage because Cynthia lets Sprint do anything to her.
Today I made them have a race who would go around the biosphere twice without stopping. Sprint won because Cynthia fell asleep in the middle of the second lap. So Sprint had a clear win by about 30 centimetres.
Today I put two more snails in the biosphere because there were about fifty on the wall & I couldn't resist it. I called the snails Fred & Reddish. Today they started racing around the biosphere in record speed. In about ten minutes I swear I saw them go around the biosphere five or six times.
Today I saw that reddish had a little red spot on the bottom of his shell. So I guess I named him well.
Today I also saw that all of my snails were just sleeping. I also gave Kelly some snails because he didn't have any. So my snails & Kelly's snails are related. Cool huh!!!!
Today I put a peace of lettuce in the biosphere. As soon as I put it in they rushed forward & started eating. It had holes in it so I guess they like eating lettuce a lot. No wonder farmers don't like snails. I found out a way to kill a snail today but it is too gory so I won't say.
Today the snails already finished the bit of lettuce. So I had to put another one in. I also saw that Fred was hiding in the little pot that I put in.
Today I took all these glass tokens and stuck them on the biosphere in the shape of a snail. It is really cool. I thing that I will put in a plant today. But I can't because my mum is buying me one today. It will be a little one. But hopefully it will be enough.
Regards: Cynthia, Sprint, Fred and Reddish. (the snails).
