YBC History |
The YBC was founded in 1964 and was originally known as the Youth Bowling Council. In 2006, the YBC's name was changed to Youth Bowling Canada. During the first year of the YBC (the 1963-64 season), the program only existed in Ontario. The following season (1964-65), the YBC was expanded to a national scale welcoming Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia. In later years, Newfoundland, New Brunswick, Quebec, Nova Scotia, the Northwest Territories and Prince Edward Island joined. The last region, Yukon, joined in the 1998-99 season. Only Nunavut is not represented in the YBC as there currently are not any bowling centres in that territory. The YBC's tenpin program started in 1970 with the provinces of British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario participating. Quebec came onboard in 1981, followed by New Brunswick in 1995. Youth Bowling Canada is administered by the Bowling Proprietors Association of Canada in Markham, Ontario. About the YBC in Southern Ontario Southern Ontario is divided into 16 separate zones. For a complete listing of all 16 zones, and the region each zone covers, please click here. Ottawa, and the surrounding communities in the Ottawa Valley are designated as Zone X. To find a YBC bowling centre near you in Ottawa & the Valley, please click Here. |
