| About Brian Jaques |
| Brian Jaques was born in Liverpool, England on 15th July, 1939. He had a brother Tony who sadly passed away. He had many jobs before becoming a writer, including Longshoreman, Comedian, Playwritgh, Radio Presenter and truck driver. When he was ten, though, he began writing about animals for fun and at school. He once wrote a story about a bird that cleans crocociles' teeth, and no-one beleived that he wrote it, they said it was too good! When he was working delivering 10-gallon loads of milk to a school , he volenteered to read to the kids. He thought the stories they got to read were very boring, so he went home and began writing books that they could read and enjoy. The first boook, Redwall, took him seven months and 800 pieces of paper, and eventually he sold it to a publisher called Alan Durband for �4000. The characters in his books arn't all made-up. Mariel is based on his Grandaughter, Constance on his grandmother, and two fans got themselves written in too. Samkin is Samantha Kim, and Arula is based on a fan who sent Brian Jaques a list of reason why she should be written in- so that's what he did! |
