HOW IT BEGAN

It all started spring semester 2000 at Boston University. Whach and I had met in CS111 (Computer programing 1). We teamed up to do several C++ projects. We both got hooked on Half-Life multiplayer after a kid on Whach's floor got a cracked version. Several weeks after we got our hands on the cracked version I was advised by a classmate to try Counter-Strike. So later that day I thought I'd give it a shot.... how bad could it be? Whach and I both downloaded version BETA 6.0.
At first I hated the mod, too much waiting around after I died. I loved the weapons though, and like all newbies the AWP was my weapon of choice. I began to play just for the sake of sniping, but by the end of the semester I only played CS.
Whach, on the other hand, liked the game from the beginning. He seemed to have a better time with it. Whach is an incredible HL player. He was constantly accused of cheating. He had an uncanny ability to stay alive for a long time.
We played the shit out of Counter-Strike the last month or so before summer break. It would be another 5 months before we finally created the OTBS clan.

Fall 2000:
The many HL and CS updates during the summer forced us to buy our own copies of Half-Life. I had been practicing all summer and I had gotten much better at playing. Unfortunately, Whach had to store his comp during the summer so he was a little rusty. In a few weeks he was back to his old self and tearing up servers. He even got banned from his favorite server because they thought he was cheating.
Whach and I didn't live on opposite sides of campus anymore (in fact we were in the same building this time). We visited each other more frequently and discussed strategies, camping spots, and servers. We began playing on the same servers and backing each other up. We had gotten quite good. It was late September and by this time we got to know the people in the dorm. We met a Freshman with one of the nicest systems we had ever seen. Flat panel monitor, surround sound, ...the works. He said he liked to play Rogue-Spear and the sound effects were great on his system. We asked him if he ever played Counter-Strike and his response was, "What the hell is Counter-Strike?" So we set it up for him and found out he was pretty damn good. His handle was originally Predator but later changed it to Smoking Flapjacks. To this day no one knows why he picked the name Smoking Flapjacks (IT'S A PANCAKE!!!!!!!). Whach and I became good friends with Flaps and he joined us on our favorite servers (Though most of the time he played against us). It was Flaps's idea to start a clan. He just blurted it out one night at dinner. He had been in the ESF Clan during his Rainbow 6 and Rouge-Spear days. We agreed that we should start a clan but we couldn't think of a good name or tag that was taken. It would take another week and a half before we came up with a name. "OH THAT'S BULLSHIT!!!!" was what most of us heard echo in the halls anyway. It was a natural step. So we officially added the tag to our name and founded OTBS on October 10, 2000.

Spring 2001:
With only three members we were looking for some new recruits. By this time we had made some more friends in the dorm and added some more members: Coolmodi (YOU SEXY BEAST!!!), WhiskyCobra (GW vs DOLE!!!), and Recca (NO IT'S NOT REBECCA....IT'S A GUY... HE'S MY BROTHER!!!)

After months of scrounging and upgrading we got enough money and parts to build a server. We were able to hold tryouts for the first time, and thus began the legacy that is OTBS.

Hope I haven't bored you too much.

-Tenken
