Chapta Three, yo

Rei fumed.

"I thought I would be nice and have all you guys over, and what's the thanks I get?! You leave me waiting on the phone for 20 minutes!' She continued to stomp around Usagi, Minako, and Makoto, who were sitting in front of the temple with glum looks. Ami desperately tried to calm Rei.

"They said they were sorry, Rei," she pleaded.

Rei replied, "Sorry's not good enough! Whenever I do something nice, they blow it! And for what this time? A stupid cartoon!"

"Please, what can we do to earn your forgiveness, Rei?" Makoto asked with sincerity in her voice.

"It is NOT a stupid cartoon!" Usagi screamed and stuck her face in Rei's. "Take that BACK!"

"And why should I?"

"Because I said so!"

Rei stuck out her tongue. Usagi growled and did the same.

"Not again," Minako sighed.

"That's the fourth fight this week," Makoto said as a sweat drop dripped down her head.

"And it's only Monday," Ami added. They all sighed.

"Who knows how long this will take."

Ami suddenly perked up. "Oh! I downloaded a chess game onto my mini-computer. I'll play someone." She pulled out a five inch-long computer with the Sailor Mercury symbol emblazoned upon the case. Makoto put her hand behind her head in awkwardness (Goku's trademark pose . . . Coincidence? In this story? Nah). "I'm afraid I wouldn't be much of a challenge."

"Me neither," Minako added.

"I'll play." A black cat calmly strode over to the steps of the temple. The crescent moon that adorned its forehead shone with the light of the sun.

"Are you sure, Luna? Ami's good."

"Hai, I haven't had a good game of chess in a long time," the cat responded.

* * *

"Checkmate."

"Again?"

"Pay up, Ami."

"Oh, fine." Ami handed the cat some catnip.

"Want to play again?" Luna asked rather smugly.

"All right," Ami sighed. "I've never lost ten times in a row before."

* * *

"I can't believe they're still at it." Makoto stretched in her spot upon the temple steps.

"I know," Minako replied. "This is Ami and Luna's fifteenth game."

"No, I meant Rei and Usagi."

"Oh. . . . You mean they're still at it?"

Sure enough, Rei and Usagi were still standing face to face, tongues sticking out threateningly. You could almost see the sparks of tension flying between them. Actually, this being an anime, you could.

"There's got to be something we can do."

"We can only wait until something sudden and unexpected interrupts them."

* * *

"Checkmate."

"Are you sure?"

"Pay up."

"I don't think there's any catnip left."

"Ah, well, I couldn't eat anymore anyway."

A male voice responded, "I'll say."

Ami turned around. "Oh, konnichi wa, Mamoru."

"Konni---"

"What? Mamoru?!" Usagi bounded down the steps with the grace of a hippo. "Mamo-chan! Oh, I'm so happy to see you!"

Makoto vigorously shook a sleeping Minako. "Mina-chan!... Minako, wake up! Usagi and Rei have stopped!" Minako snapped awake.

"Holy mother of meatballs!" She turned and said, "Oh look, Mamoru's here." The two of them got up and greeted him. Looking close enough, one could have seen a tinge of disgust in his eyes. He quickly took a few steps back.

"I came because I have a present for . . . er, my . . . um, Usako," Mamoru said and smiled.

"Ooooooh! For me?!" Usagi began jumping up and down. Mamoru handed her a package. It was unwrapped in a matter of seconds.

"Oh! A camera! Thank you, Mamo-chan!" She reached out to hug him, but he swiftly stepped aside and grabbed the camera.

"Why don't I take a picture of you, er, gorgeous girls?" He smiled again and the girls quickly replied, "Okay!"

"Wish I had a nice guy like Mamoru to give me presents, huh, Minako?" Makoto whispered. Minako let out a small sigh.

The five girls lined up for their picture (even Rei, who seemed to have forgotten her dispute with Usagi) and smiled. Mamoru clicked the shutter and a blinding light flashed. And flashed. And continuously flashed.

"Mamoru, what's happening?!" Usagi cried. Mamoru, or at least what seemed to be Mamoru, began laughing maniacally.

"'Mamoru' is gone," he said and grinned evilly. "And soon you and the rest of the Sailor Senshi will be, too!" He laughed all the more maniacally as Usagi, Makoto, Minako, Rei, and Ami disappeared . . . and five other figures took their place. Mamoru, in shock, stopped his cackling but quickly recovered and ran from the temple.
