  • From our President, Lisa:
Hi Colorado Buckeye Backers, In case you have not already heard the Buckeyes are going back to Tempe to play Kansas State in the Fiesta Bowl. This is just a quick note to see if you want to join me at the game. Our club will be getting tickets and I need to supply the university with a request. So, let me know ASAP if you want a ticket and how many you will need. The tickets cost $90.00 each. My preliminary request has been for 100 tickets but I need to give my final request by noon on wednesday. PLEASE CONTACT ME ASAP IF YOU WANT A TICKET. I won't know until later this week or early next week how many tickets we will be getting and will be notifying everyone as soon as I do. For those of you who did not experience the Fiesta Bowl last year I strongly encourage you to consider it this year. Tempe was a fantastic place. They know how to host a party!

  • We will also be having a Fiesta Bowl party at Croc's for those people who will be in Denver for the game. More news on that to follow. Stay tuned!
  • Hello Colorado Buckeye Nation~

Wow....that was a bit too close for comfort! I don't know if the near loss to Cincinnati can be attributed to our weakness at the QB and Corner positions. Perhaps it was due to the fact that our team was looking past the Bearcats or the fact that we committed some stupid penalties or bad calls (12 men on the field after a time-out---c'mon Tressel!) It could have something to do with the fact that Clarett did not play or it could be a little bit of "all of the above." The good news is that even though the game last week was sloppy, to say the least, and lacked much of the talent that a championship caliber team should display, we still came away with a "W." In fact, we remain locked at the #6 position in both polls even after the near loss to UC. Time to wake up. I hope that this experience will help get us through this next stretch of "easy" match-ups beginning with the Indiana game this Sa! turday.

Schedule conflict with Nebraska this Saturday!!!!! ....At the beginning of the season I mentioned that there may be a few weeks where OSU and Nebraska play at the same time. Since Nebraska's club has been going to Crocs for the last few years (and since they have larger turnouts-for now anyway) they have seniority over us. So, we will be meeting at Crocs' sister bar, Matties for the Indiana game. Matties (303-297-9600) is located on Market street too, a few blocks up from Crocs, next to LoDo's Bar and Grill. Yes, LoDo's is home to the UscuM alumni club so we must all be on our best behavior (myself included.;-)) Anyway, Matties will be offering us happy hour specials as well as food specials. They will have our game on all of the TVs in the upstairs bar. If at all possible, can you please reply to let me know if you are going to come watch the IU game w! ith us? Matties has offered to bring in more TVs if we have large enough turnout. So, please let me know if you are planning on attending. I want to keep everyone happy and make sure that everyone has a good view of the game. They have plenty of room so come down to Matties to join us this Saturday. The game starts at 10:10 MST. It's probably good that it's early....less alcohol...less confrontation with the Michigan bar. ;-)

Here is another GREAT article about the Buckeyes, Clarett and our National Championship hopes: http://www.sportingnews.com/voices/tom_dienhart/20020923.html

FAST FACTS: -IU QB Gibran Handan ranks 1st in the big Ten in the most interceptions thrown at 6

-IU LB, Herana-Daze Jones is leading the Big Ten in tackles at 12.5 per game

-In the past 20 years, OSU is 14-2-1 against IU with a total points of 549 vs. 287 respectively.

-Indiana's new Coach, Gary DiNardo, came from the XFL Go Bucks~ See ya Saturday. Lisa

8/9/02 - Hello Again Buckeye Backers!

It's been a long wait but the time has finally arrived! The Buckeyes kick the season off in just two weeks in the much anticipated season opener against Texas Tech. The game is sure to be an exciting one as there is a lot of talk about the Red Raiders and their star QB, Kliff Kingsbury. Kingsbury is the Big 12 preseason offensive player of the year and potential Heisman candidate. I can't wait to see it. There will be so many great things to watch like who will start, who will be the new standout player(s), OUR HIGHLY RATED DEFENSE, and so on!

Great news!!!!! We have found a new home and this time I feel confident that we will be staying. Croc's Bar and Grill in LoDo has offered to host our games! The owner also owns Lodo's (home of UM) and Mattie's. He has offered us all of the usual perks, discount drinks and food etc. Additionally, he has negotiated a beer sponsor for us. Miller has agreed to supply us with signs and t-shirts and other giveaways. Furthermore, the GM of Croc's is from Ohio and is a huge Buckeye fan. He has offered to permanently hang an Ohio State flag in the bar! Also, they want to run promotional spots on the radio and in the newspaper to help us reassemble our group. I am very pumped and feel confident that this will be our home for a long time to come. Okay, so there is one minor issue. Nebraska meets their as well. However, we checked the schedule! and there aren't any schedule conflicts for the first 6 weeks (or so). The times have not been posted for the last half of the season. But....they agreed to reserve Matties (just down the street) for either Nebraska or OSU depending on the size of the game. So, we are covered. Not to worry...the Michigan game falls on a weekend when Nebraska doesn't play.

So, I hope that you can all turn out for the first game at Croc's on August 24th (two weeks and counting) at 1630 Market Street. It would really help if we had a large turnout. The more that show the better. Croc's is really bending over backwards for us since I have been bragging about what a great organization we have. Please RSVP to this message so that I know approx.. how many people will be there.

    3/7/02 - Hi Buckeye Fans!

    Hello Fellow Buckeye Backers!

It's March and you know what that means....March Madness is almost upon us. The Big Ten Tournament makes a nice prelude to the official NCAA "madness." The Buckeyes earned a bye in the first round and will be playing on Friday against the winner of the Michigan/Northwestern game. Friday's game starts at 4:40 mountain time. Then the following game is scheduled for Saturday at 2:05 with the championship game slated for Sunday at 1:30 mountain time. Plan on joining us at the "Original" Brooklyn's across from Invesco Field at Mile High to watch the Basket-Bucks compete. I like our bracket selection and our odds of making it to the championship game.

I hope you can make it out!!! The more people we have the better!!! The address is 2644 W. Colfax. From 25 south you will exit on 19th, from 25 north you will exit on 17th heading west towards Colfax. Give them a call for specific directions.

I hope to see you there! Give me a call if you have any question, 303-358-0904.

    2/19/02 - Hi Buckeye Fans!

I know it's short notice but I thought that I would try and get everyone together to watch the OSU/Indiana game tomorrow night. We are tied for first place in the Big Ten with IU. During the first meeting in Columbus the Buckeyes beat the Hoosiers 73-67. It was a close one and I'm sure, with so much on the line, tomorrow's game will be just as exciting. The Hoosiers will be out to regain bragging rights and Assembly Hall is tough place to win but the Bucks appear to be up for the challenge.

The game starts at 5:00 mountain time and I think I have found a new home for us. The Original Brooklyn's at Mile High has offered to host us. I have been looking all around and this appears to be a good spot. The address is 2644 W. Colfax (next to Mile High.) From 25 south you will exit on 19th, from 25 north you will exit on 17th heading west towards Colfax. They will have the sound on for the game and they want to see how the basketball crowds turn out before setting up anything for football. So, if there is any way that you can make it tomorrow it would really help show that we have a strong club. Additionally, I would be interested in your feedback. PLEASE RSVP THIS MESSAGE TO LET ME KNOW IF YOU CAN MAKE IT!!!! I want to set the appropriate expectation for Brooklyn's. If all works out, we will be meeting there for both tournaments and maybe for football as well!!

    1/25/02 - Hi Buckeye Fans!

Last night's game was pure entertainment as OSU killed UM 69-47, extending their record to 15-2 (6-0 in the Big Ten.) That victory brought the Bucks winning streak to 5 against the team up north. They looked very good. Let's hope that they can continue the momentum this Tuesday against a much better (than UM that is...) Illinois team.

BW3's is going to have the game on for us. I hope you can come watch. It's certain to be a challenging but exciting game. The game starts at 5:00 PM. BW3's is located at 8350 W 80th Ave in Arvada. Please try and make it out. It will be nice to have some real wings for a change!

    Go Bucks!

9/22/01 - Beginning with the UCLA game September 22, the Alumni Club will be watching all OSU Football games at our new home, Cooper's Town on Blake Street. Lisa's message:

    Hello All-

It's official! Cooper's Town is the new "Buckeye Nation." They are being GREAT! The manager has agreed to give us $2.00 drafts and 1/2 off on select apps. They are reserving the upstairs room for us. This room can accommodate 250 people. They do have satellite and will let us use their sound system to play our OSU music during half time. They will definitely treat us well, especially since the AGM is a huge Buckeye fan himself. He is from Ohio which is a big bonus for us!!!

Additionally, we are working on arranging special $1.00 parking w/Amco parking for Buckeye fans during the game. That is still a work in progress but details will soon follow.

Please plan on attending the gathering this week to watch OSU play UCLA. We want to show them a good turnout. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how you look at it) I won't be able to make it because I AM GOING TO THE GAME!!! Spread the word even if you can't attend.

Cooper's Town on Blake street. Upstairs bar. Food and drink specials......Buckeye Nation!!!! (9/20/01)

OSU, WSU work out kinks for showdown
    Monday, September 9, 2002
    Tim May
    THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

After two Saturdays of previews, a feature presentation is coming: No. 6-ranked Ohio State is playing host to 10th-ranked Washington State at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

"It's very exciting,'' OSU safety Donnie Nickey said. "You've got Washington State, a lot of hype. You've got Ohio State, a lot of hype. That just makes you come in and work that much harder at it.''

Though the record shows each of them worked hard in their respective victories two days ago, they actually used them as tuneups.

The Buckeyes (2-0) dominated Kent State 51-17 so thoroughly they never punted. Washington State (2-0) ran over Idaho 49-14. Except for the fact the Cougars punted five times, the games were similar.

Idaho had the ball for more than 35 minutes. Kent State kept the ball for more than 38 minutes. The winners' big plays held sway against their overmatched opponents.

Again, though, they were tuneups. After rushing for more than 300 yards in the season-opening win over Texas Tech, the Buckeyes went into the Kent State game with a plan to throw more, no matter what. Quarterback Craig Krenzel was 12 of 14, including an 11-of-11 start, for 190 yards and a touchdown as the Buckeyes passed 25 times in their mere 47 offensive plays.

"We wanted to come out and throw the ball as much for Craig Krenzel as for the offensive line and the backs in their pass protection, and the tight ends and receivers for their routes,'' OSU coach Jim Tressel said. "We didn't get to throw as much as we wanted to two weeks ago, so it was good to get out there and throw it.

"The defense put us so close to the goal line, though, we didn't have to go very far, so we probably didn't get as many plays or time of possession as we'd have liked . . . because when you score with your defense, the offensive guys just sat over there and clapped.''

Washington State knows it has a Heisman Trophy-hopeful quarterback in Jason Gesser, but coach Mike Price wanted to show the Cougars also have a running game in the spread offense. Among their mere 55 plays they rushed 33 times, for 240 yards, while Gesser still got in his licks, hitting 12 of 16 passes for 220 yards, two TDs and one interception.

"We said we wanted to come out and establish the run,'' Price said. "We wanted to continue to play good team defense and improve the blocking of our offensive line. I thought we did that.''

Washington State jumped to a 21-0 lead. Ohio State sprinted to a 38-0 advantage, with a blocked punt by Nickey and TD interception returns by Mike Doss and A.J. Hawk providing the spark.

"I think we came out quick . . . but we made a lot of mistakes on defense,'' Nickey said. "So I think we can build on our mistakes going into Washington State.''

Getting to the Washington State game 2-0 was the primary goal for the Buckeyes, who leapfrogged Michigan to No. 6 in the Associated Press poll.

"Any win is a perfect setup,'' Krenzel said. "We did some good things. At the same time, we made some mistakes.

"We know Washington State is going to be a very tough opponent. It's going to be our goal to get the mistakes corrected, to come out and get a good game plan and work hard this week and come out ready to play next Saturday.''
