Charles Mill Lake - BCFH

Located in Northcentral Ohio, about 10-15 miles east of Mansfield. This lake is one of the flood control reservoirs of the Muskingum Watershed Conservation District. There are two campgrounds, a marina with a boat ramp, and a swimming beach. All are located on state route 430 about a mile west of state route 603. It is a fairly shallow lake, therefore there is a ten horsepower limit. The fishing includes bluegills, crappies, catfish (mostly channel and bullhead), and some bass. With the exceptions of the cottage areas, camping areas, near the beach, etc. the land around the lake is all public hunting land.

Mohican State Park - CKF (BH nearby)

Located in Northcentral Ohio, just south of Loudonville, near the intersection of routes 39 and 3. The Mohican River is noted for smallmouth bass fishing. Largemouth bass, carp, crappie, catfish, perch and bluegill are also abundant in the river and at nearby Pleasant Hill Reservoir. Hunting opportunities are available in the adjacent state forest. A valid Ohio fishing and/or hunting license is required. This is a nice place to camp or go hiking. Nearby are the Black Fork and Clear Fork Rivers (tributaries to the Mohican River). There are several canoe livries all along the rivers.

Malabar Farm State Park - FKO

Located in Northcentral Ohio, about 5 miles from Lucas, just off route 603 south of route 39. It's been a while since I've been here, and some of the things may have changed. Malabar Farm was the home of Pulitzer Prize-winning author, Louis Bromfield. There are hiking trails which can be used for cross-country skiing in winter. You may fish the farm ponds for bluegill and catfish. The center-piece of the park is the farm. There are tours of the farm and house available for a small fee.

Indiana Dunes State Park and Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore - CFKNO

Located in Northwest Indiana, just north of I-94 on state route 49. This park has camping, hiking trails, nature center, beach, and lots and lots of sand dunes. The Indiana Dunes is composed of two parks; The State Park, and the National Lakeshore (Part of the National Park Service). The camping is located in the Start Park. The others are in both parks. US Route 12 follows along the bottom of both parks and pretty much is the connecting roadway for the two parks. Fishing is permited in the State Park, but only for smelt, which is usually done during the spawning season. During the winter, the State Park offers cross country skiing.

Pokagon State Park - BCFKNO

Located in Northeast Indiana, off I-69 just south of the Indiana Toll Road. This park offers something for everyone. It borders Lake James giving opportunity for boating, fishing, swimming, and waterskiing, along with rowboat, canoe, and paddleboat rentals. It also has camping, hiking trails, and horse trails (with horse rental). For winter, it has cross country skiing, and a toboggan run.

MICHIGAN

Warren Dunes State Park - CKO

Warren Dunes State Park has more than two miles of Great Lakes shoreline backdropped by spectacular sand dunes rising 240 feet above Lake Michigan. A variety of natural settings dominate the park, from rugged dune formations to winding streams to forest growth and wildflowers. From I-94, take exit 16 at Bridgman. Go south on Red Arrow Highway two miles. Open year-round, with modern camping facilities only from April 15 to November 1.

Tahquamenon Falls State Park - BCFKO

Tahquamenon Falls State Park encompasses close to 40,000 acres stretching over 13 miles. Most of this is undeveloped woodland without roads, buildings or power lines. The centerpiece of the park, and the very reason for its existence, is the Tahquamenon River, with its waterfalls. The Upper Falls is one of the largest waterfalls east of the Mississippi. It has a drop of nearly 50 feet and is more than 200 feet across. A maximum flow of more than 50,000 gallons of water per second has been recorded cascading over these falls. During the spring and summer, camping, hiking, fishing, canoeing, nature study and photography are popular activities. Fall colors provide a beautiful picturesque view of the park.
