British Writers and their Religious Beliefs
Especially as reflected in their writings. Some writers were lifelong Christians; others were professed atheists. Still others wavered, changing their beliefs during their lifetimes. Among this last group, there were the same three conclusions.
These observations, gleaned mostly from the 5th Edition of Norton's Anthology of British Literature Vol 2, may be helpful in some way. Anyhow, it's interesting.
