Correct
use of do, have and some verbs in
present.
Ok, for the
verb do:
|
I |
Do |
|
You |
Do |
|
He/she/it |
Does |
|
They |
Do |
|
We |
Do |
For example:
I do
my own laundry
You do
your homework
He does
his own work
They do
like ice-cream
We do
love soccer
If you put
attention, you’ll realize that we use does when we are talking about a
third party or person (he, she or it) and always in singular, because we use do
when we are talking about two or more persons or things, even if they are third
persons (I, you, they, we)
It’s the same
for have
and has:
|
I |
Have |
|
You |
Have |
|
He/she/it |
Has |
|
They |
Have |
|
We |
Have |
For example:
I have
a dog
You have your
own home
She has
a lot of work to do
They have
a club
We have
the same books
Ok, let’s
check other verbs:
|
|
To run |
To like |
To walk |
To live |
To know |
|
I |
Run |
Like |
Walk |
Live |
Know |
|
You |
Run |
Like |
Walk |
Live |
Know |
|
He/she/it |
Runs |
Likes |
Walk |
Lives |
Knows |
|
They |
Run |
Like |
Walk |
Live |
Know |
|
We |
Run |
Like |
Walk |
Live |
Know |
Ok, but here
comes the real stuff:
When you put does or
doesn’t before a verb you are using to describe an action from a third
person, you don’t have to write the –s in the end of the verb
He does like
chocolate milk
She doesn’t know
that person
Does it live
in the forest?
Please keep
it in mind; it applies for almost all the verbs. I posted one exercise about
this on the next address. http://www.geocities.com/oscaramador1986/useofdo.html
Please answer
it, it will be good for you, remember that I’m doing my best so you won’t have
an excuse if you fail, ok?
