Fort Simpson to Inuvik, the adventure continues
Three days into the trip, Jeannine decided that Jerry needed a haircut.  It was on the Liard Highway at Blackstone River.  It was so hot we couldnt ride.  We were praying for clouds and maybe even rain.  It was about 30 celcuis and way too hot for cycling the mountains.  The trip so far was good.  The roads are gravel, but in pretty good shape.  We are meeting many wonderful people along this road.  We keep seeing ??? from Fort Liard Taxi and he brings stuff to us from Fort Simpson.
We have travelled 172 kilometers so far, the third day from home.
This scene was all too familiar.  Jerry repairing flat tires.  When we had a flat tire in the rear, it meant taking off the trailer and rear paniers and of course of wheel and tire.  We got pretty good at it.  In total we had 23 flat tires, had a throw away 2 tires and a few tubes.  Thats not bad since the bikes travelled around 16,000 kilometers.  Thats 4 bikes of course.  Jerry and Lesly travelled around 5500 kilometers each and Jeannine and Orville travelled 2600 kilomters each.
A beautiful evening along a lake where we camped for the night.  We are still having wonderful weather and had we known about the rain we were going to endure, we wouldn't have complained so much about the sun and heat.  One has to be careful doing rain dances, as sometimes you get what you wish for.
This isnt a good picture.  We took it with a digital camera.  However, we made the papers in Simpson.
We have just left Fort Liard.  We stayed there for almost 4 days, as the rain was really bad, the roads muddy and our spirits dampened.  We stayed at a friends house in Fort Liard, but we were all anxious to get cycling.  We did get a chance to have dinner at a bush camp, and meet some very interesting people.
We are 299 kilometers from Fort Simpson, and we have been gone for a week.
A familiar site.  Changing flats in the rain, with loads of mosquitos and black flies.  This is still on the Liard Highway.
We did so much praying to get rid of the sun, I think it was gone forever at this point.  When you get four people doing heavy physical labor, like riding cycles with enormous loads, the nerves can get a little on edge sometimes.  I think we did pretty good considering the distance we had to travel.
You can see Jeannine in her bug shirt, watching Jerry repair the tire.
Jeannine pulling her trailer.  She has a heavy load, but right now on the Liard Highway, it isnt raining.
We are getting closer to the Alaska Highway and it's still rain and heavy overcast.  We just camped on the other side of this bridge.  The road is in good shape for cycling, albeit gravel and construction. We stayed at the Nelson River last night.  We are on day 9, 440 kilometers from Simpson.
We finally made it to the Alaska Highway, some 480 kilometers from Fort Simpson.  We are far behind schedule, due to the rain and rough roads behind us.
The Alaska Highway.....

Even though we were only about 500 kilometers from Simpson, we knew we had just finished the first leg of the trip, and were happy to see the pavement. The parts of the trip are as follows:
Fort Simpson to Alaska Highway
to Watson Lake (Alaska Highway)
Campbell Highway
Dempster Highway to end of Journey
