coke

This is our locally owned Coke plant. This is the fourth building used by the Carver family for their Coke plant. The original coke plant was started in Kilmarnock in 1921 with a second plant located at McGuires Wharf shortly after the Kilmarnock plant opened. After the roads improved in the area the Kilmarnock and McGuire Wharf plants closed with a plant opening in Montross in what is now our NAPA store. Later a plant was opened at the present location.

This is part of the original Coke plant. It is the loading shed for the wagons and early trucks. The building was all that was left of the McGuires Wharf plant. The building was moved to Montross at the closing of the McGuires plant. At the time of its use the coke plant had only one truck. This shed has since been torn down and removed.
