Mitote Orchestra
(Music, Ecology and Musical Instrument Making)
Mitote is a nahuatl fertility dance, it has a prehispanic origin which searches the union between heaven and earth and this work is precisely presented within this spirit.
Mitote, � Trash for some�wealth for others� � is a Mexican project which proposes the creation of percussion orchestras executing instruments made out of solid recycled waste, using afroamerican, midoriental and african rhythms.
This application of art in society mixes music, ecology and musical instrument building and it�s directed for all kinds of audiences with or without previous musical knowledge.
Mitote is based in the transmission of communitary memory through the arts using for it intangible heritage. This is why it is easy to teach and reproduce.
Mitote has earned national and international awards, it has been done in several occasions with different audiences, in 11 of the 31 states of Mexico. Also, in Italy, Colombia, Uruguay, Spain and Canada, highlighting the UNESCO and International Music Council�s support.
If sound vibrations affect everything, then we can use them to create wellness in the planet and humanity. Mitote is based in the use of music as a wellbeing generator capable of creating a positive interaction between individuals and community. Mitote promotes respect for every living form. By creating happy people we will obtain a healthier community.
By using different aspects of knowledge Mitote offers the invaluable artistic power to protect the environment. As a result we will get sensible and organized people. In order to obtain this, music and ecology are our best vehicle.
