Rocket Fire
I am airborne
feeling the freedom
of falling stars
and rocket fire.
My home
is the sky;
my bedroom,
the stars.
Hold my hand,
I'll lift you up.
Shun me,
I'll still be me.

A Courtship
At first it starts as a misty stare,
turning to looks of lust.
What was harmless has transformed
into a friendly game.
When he smiles at her,
she can feel her heart pump faster
and her face begin to blush.
She turns away, hoping he didn't see,
but hoping he did see too.
When she looks at him,
his heart skips a beat,
and he knows he wants to hold her forever.
They play games with each other,
seducing themselves closer,
entwining their lives more tightly.
Their active pursuit
reminds me of two birds
chasing each other through the air.
It's all a game,
but more importantly, it's a test.
Who wants to be with someone
whom they do not like?
After all the tickles and hugs,
after all the flowers and cards,
after all the dinners and concerts,
after all the conversations and games,
they know it's all for fun.
But maybe, they hope, just maybe
they could be happy together forever.

Blissfully Unaware
Living in security
under the protective umbrella
of money and a strong government,
we are blissfully unaware
of the happenings around us.
Our generation has never known
persecution, war, or tyranny,
but we still struggle to find our causes.
An unprecedented amount of rights
are given to our citizens,
but we demand more, often at no cost,
regardless of the consequences.
We are blissfully unaware
of the inner workings of politics
and of the human mind,
and we choose to believe
propaganda over fact,
thinking it is the truth.
We are incapable of seeing things
from another point of view;
we always think we are right.
Blissful unawareness is ignorance,
and ignorance is a fool's trait.
We must learn to see the world.
We must learn to understand.
Otherwise blissful ignorance
will be the downfall of our
protective, secure society.

Negating Complaints Against the US
They say Americans think they are the best.
They say Americans throw their weight around.
They say Americans are imperialsts
and that we always get our way.
They say Americans are too proud
and that with this pride comes conceit.
They say we're ignorant of the world,
but they can't see their own hypocracy.

China rails against us for economic power
while they steal our secrets.
They copy our software and music to CDs
and sell it as their own.
They steal our aircraft and men
and insist we have done wrong.
Their power is from their propaganda,
and such affrontery is intolerable.

Britain complains of our politics,
but they can't see their Parliament.
Britain complains of our policies,
neglecting their own historical examples.
France does not like dirty Americans,
while their own streets are filthy.
France is jealous of US domination,
not realizing the benefits of the world market.

Japan complains of our occupation
of our bases on their land,
but the don't see where they'd be
without the US protectors.
Japan thinks the US cannot
control them economically,
but they can't see that they rely
on Americans to buy their products.

They say Americans think they're the best.
They say Americans are cocky.
But they only use these stereotypes
to rationalize their exploitation of the US.
They have our own people believing
in our own intrinsic global equality,
but the truth is obvious for anyone to see:
that the US is the best nation in the world.

Short Legacy Poem
When I'm nearby it's easy to see
all the wonderful things about me.
But when I'm gone and you can't see me,
what imprint will be my legacy?
When I'm gone from your reality
what, in your heart, will be left of me?
When the world shows you new things to see,
will you ever remember me?
