As a child, I have always wanted to believe that I am not  a part of my own family; that I am alone and not connected to anyone but myself. However, as I grew older,  I realized that there could be  no O.P.Bautista without my "cold roots". Piece by piece, I am connected to my family.

When my grandmother Ligaya was still alive, she used to tell me that "you are like your lolo Endic, who was a journalist in  Los Angeles, who used to love correcting my grammar, who loved history, and so forth". She used to tell me that I was just like my mom who burned her eyebrows in the early morn reading books; how I was like my dad who loved music and drawing; how I was like my uncle, etc.

At my age, with all my accomplishments and failures, there's a realization that for everything that I am, for everything that I do, my family resides inside the depths of my being.

root:  an important part from which other things grow and develop.
