Rafe and Brown decide that
it's not far for Ellison to hog all of Sandburg's expertise and borrow him
to help them on a case. Well. Things don't go quite as smoothly as Rafe
and Brown expected. And the lion gets wet. Normally, I can't stand
slapstick, and this is kind of slapsticky, but this one amused the hell
out of me. The overblown Blessed Protector Jim for Comedy sake was kind of
funny in this one, but I couldn't say why. |

Blair creates a life with
Brian Rafe after Jim breaks up with him. But when a terrible accident
almost kills Blair, Jim decides that he was wrong after all. Blair chooses
Brian. They take a vacation to reconnect, but an accident has Brian dying
in Blair's arms. Blair, unable to cope, leaves Cascade. In the meantime,
Jim has custody of Burton, Blair and Brian's dog, who can act as an
interim guide. Two years later, Blair returns and somehow, he, Jim, the
rest of Major Crimes must figure out how to come back together. A
tear-jerker filled with all of the drama (occasionally skimming melodrama)
a person can handle. Some of the plot points were a bit too convenient not
to stand out as a plot device despite the care an attention to development
of both character and plot. |

Once again, the PD is taken over and the cops are
held hostage down in the holding cells handcuffed. All except for the
intrepid Blair Sandburg. And Rhonda and the Donut Girl who refuse to stay
in the truck, er stay behind the vending machine where they're safe while
Blair gets to Jim because he just knows Jim needs him. Jim, along with
everyone else in the cells once he starts yelling, listens as his guide
and the secret love of his life takes on a station full of armed
perpetrators with wits, half-naked women, and jelly donuts. Rafe's
jealous. This one's pretty darned amusing and not in the slapstick way at
all. I can't really tell if the author's taking the whole Blessed
Protector thing too seriously (though the bulk of her stories feature an
overprotective MC gang rampaging to save Blair from whatever trouble he's
in) or doing a damned fine parody. I'm thinking she thinks it's
cute. |
