What does this course cover?
Broadly this course covers those things you need to know to pass the PMI� exam and thus to become
a Project Management Professional, PMP�. If you haven't already done so, we suggest you read
the about this course page first.
The course covers the project management knowledge areas as defined in the PMBOK:
Scope: Managing stake holder expectation, Requirements definition, Project Charter and Scope statement, Work Breakdown and acceptance
Time: Activity on Arrow / Node networks, dependencies, Float, PERT, Monte-Carlo simulation, Crashing and Fast tracking
Cost: Business case, BCR, IRR, Estimating, Contingency, Earned value, Change control
Risk: Risk management policies and benefits, process, records and change control
Communications: The number one priority, communications models, barriers, modes, tracking, status reporting and historical information
Human resources: People get the project done, Matrix management, Maslow, McGregor, Power vs Authority, Conflict management, Harvard maturity model
Quality: Conformance to requirements, Cost of quality, Assurance vs Control, SPQL, Pareto, JIT
Procurement: A project within a project, contract types, negotiation, change management
Integration: Configuration management, lessons learned, version and change control.
Other topics: The PMI� exam does not only examine you on the contents of the
PMBOK. This course aims also to equip you to answer questions on things not specifically
documented in the PMBOK.
How is the course structured?
Before attending you will receive an excellent book and study notes that you can use for distance learning. The course is a mix of instruction, reading, discussion and practice tests.
For those less familiar with the subject matter there will also be self study work in the evenings.
What are the start and end times of the course?
Day 1 : 09:30 to 17:30
Day 2 : 09:00 to 17:30
Day 3 : 09:00 to 16:00
On days 1 and 2 you may also have some evening work to do.

Who teaches this course?
The course is taught by Rob Hookham. Rob worked for IBM for 28 years in various project management and quality assurance roles and most recently was the European PMI� Programme Manager. In this role Rob managed IBM's European PMI� Certification programme and taught the exam preparation course for IBM project managers throughout Europe. Rob is also a qualified university lecturer.
