History of the Jesuits This 52-page excerpt from Dr. Wylie's massive work "The History of Protestantism" details the rise of the Catholic militant order that was given the name The Society of Jesus aka The Jesuits. This order was founded in the year 1540 by Ignatius Loyola, a contemporary with the great reformer Martin Luther. This Catholic order soon received the blessing of the Pope and became the militant spearhead of the so-called counter-reformation, using almost every means available to achieve its ends. The Jesuits was at one time expelled from almost every country on the globe, and was even banned by the Pope himself for a number of years.
