Happy Girl's Day!
Or is it "Merry Girls Day?"
I always get that one confused...

      Today, was the traditional Japanese
Hina-Matsuri, or Girl's Day Festival. That is when the parents of little girls set up some VERY expensive dolls in a display to celebrate their daughter's growth and development. We were going to buy some dolls at the store, but realized we didn't have 60,000 yen to spend on dolls (60K is about $500). So Mayuho found a little doll kit, and she spent hours sewing the little clothes together to make the very cute dolls you see to the right of Kylie. And we saved $488 to spend on things that will actually help Kylie grow. Like formula. And daipers, and the zillion other things you never thought you would need, and probably hadn't been invented when WE were babies, but are now "necessary equipment."
At any rate, I love Kylie's little
yukata, or Japanese summer kimono. It is not summer, but it fits the image here. You can see the little pigs with smoke coming out of their mouths. These are Katori-senko buta, or "Mosquito Repellant Insence Coil Pigs." In the summer here in Japan we use a lot of mosquito repellant incense. .
