1/26/2003 Last night, Kylie took her first bath in the big tub. It was a bit scary, but fun too. If you have never been to Japan, you should know that in Japan almost every home or apartment has a real bath-room, called an o-furo, or literally, "The Honorable Bath" which is only for the bath and shower. It is usually completely tiled or otherwise waterproofed, so you can spray the water everywhere. After showering, you get in the tub and soak. Then, when you are completely relaxed, get out and wash again, or at least rinse off. And of course, don't drain the tub! The next person will use the water, and in the morning it is pumped to the washing machine and used for laundry. When you think about it, it is not such a bad idea. I mean, if you shower before your bath, how dirty can you be? First, I got into the bathroom and took my own shower, then Mayuho brought in the little one and started to snap nudes of me like there was no tomorrow. Needless to say, I did some heavy censoring of those images afterwards. At any rate, I sat cross-legged on the floor, put Kylie on my lap and washed her, occasionally pouring some warm water on her to keep her comfortable. Then we got into the tub and soaked for a while. Of course, Mayuho was right there taking pictures the whole time! It was a bit scary holding a wet slippery, dancing baby in that deep Japanese-style tub, but it was a lot of fun as well. Kylie was splashing and sneezing, and looking around with those big bright baby eyes... And after a few minutes Mayuho came to take Kylie back, and I soaked for another 20 minutes. Ahhh... A warm bath on a cold night.... Heaven! |
