Mary Lou Griffith (page 2 of 2)

a swarm of gnats
     going nowhere
          over this pond

unblinking trout
     the flick of his tail
          brook master

dyeing day
     furling silks
          color the breeze

eons
     of caresses and play
          the pines and the wind

night wind
     pesters
          the loose screen door

bouncing branch
     whistlestop
          for departing sparrow

waterfall pond
     cupped edges catching
          circles, circles

quail family
     grazing through
          yesterday's tracks

mountain blush
     kiss of the sunset
          spring heat

desert night
     so many stars camouflaging
          constellations!

a falling leaf
drifts into my teacup
    I watch it steep

peering under a tree
     heavy
          with its fruit

girls
     busy
          braiding crowns of daisies
