The Oregon Haiku & Tanka Society is simply a place for Oregonian writers to share the fine art of tanka and haiku with the rest of the world via the Internet mainly. We aren't a fancy society because Oregon isn't really a fancy place. It's made up of ranchers, mountain men and women, indians, enviromentalists, horse and dog-lovers, riverites and rose lovers, feral cat caregivers, cowboys and cowgirls, loggers, naturalists, hikers, jeep nuts, snowboarders and skiers, off-road racers, mountain climbers, and various other rugged types of individuals.

Mind you, not all of these groups get along perfectly, but at least the haiku and tanka poets do tend to stick together since there's so few of us scattered throughout this gorgeous state.

Oregon has high-desert, an ocean coast, lush fern valleys, big cities and small towns, sand dunes, national forests, and much more . . . so there's never a shortage of things to write about, especially when it comes to nature.

Right now, our website is under construction, and will be for quite a while, so please excuse us if some of the links aren't active. It could takes years before we become an actual permanent foundation, but hey, all we have in Oregon is lots of time and plenty of space.
