Here is my 1951 Approx Austin Loadstar Truck, K4 Series II, 2 Ton SWB (Short Wheel Base).
Which will be my parts car for my other one,This one started life as a fire truck for the CFA, I have been told it was in the Ballarat brigade, but this i will have to confirm. when it was decommissioned I cannot say, but it was last registered in 1991.
I found this one on a farm near some pine trees at a friends place, it took some doing but i finally bought it, i just couldn't let it die, despite how bad it looked. my wife wanted to kill me!
Unfortunately the tank on the back could not be saved, as it had sat in a cradle on the back, & that rusted away & right through the tank walls, so after that came off i put the other front window back in, & we dragged it to my place very slowly with another truck
You should have seen the looks we got, but as you may guess I am well used to these type of looks heheh. it was an interesting ride, thumping down the road, lucky we live in the country, so plenty of quiet roads, though dirt ones, eating road dust is an occupational habit of mine.
The other pics show it back at my place, after i scrubbed it up a bit. I now have sealed the windows with Gaffa tape until I get new rubbers for them, Also there is a big rip of rust along the back roof of the cabin above the rear window, they like rusting there as the interior masonite
lining is held there by wood, which held the moisture there over time, I gaffa taped that up until i get to it, prob after winter.. It needs new tyres all around, gonna cost about $1300 for them alone, so this is another one of my long term projects, but a good one. It's amazing how little info or pictures there are on the internet of these ones, yet it was the first new post-war design Austin truck after the war.
The K9 army version shares the same styling, & the Series III that came out in 1956 has the same shape but redesigned front end, similar to the early ford F100's, & different interior layout.
from the 1960's When BMC took over, the series III was continued rebadged as BMC. I have a suspicion this cab style was also adopted for morris after they dropped the Morris Commercial.
