Football World Cup!
Got a Story?
.
.
As most people within the Order will know,  The first ever Order of Malta Football world cup has started over the past few weeks. The Templeogue Unit is proudly represented by its members. The format of the tournament is as follows.

3 groups of 5 teams

Group 1

Marino
Clondalkin
Castleknock
Dublin Region
Harolds Cross

Group 2

Crumlin
Cabra
Dundrum
Tallaght
Clonsilla

The Templeogue Unit was drawn in group Three which included.

Dundrum 1
Raheny
Palmerstown
Drimnagh
Templeogue.

Each team is hoping to qualify for the quarter finals, you do this by coming 1st, second or being on of the best two 3rd place teams. Expectations were high in the Templeogue camp with a strong team which included 3 female players. The team is as follows.

Cathal Gibson - Bustling centre Half, takes no nonsense!
Paudge Gibson - Seaman has nothing on this boulder of a keeper!
Aife Heffernan - Silky Skill and a touch of luck see's her as being a crowd pleaser!
Orla Heffernan - Always dependable, fit as a fox and strong as an ox!
Conor Purcell - Fit and strong, but problem is he's too lazy!
Sarah Bowers - Adds a bit of finess and patience toour quick passing build ups!
Caolan Reid - Needs to learn how to kick a ball!
Cillian Reid - One of the younger members, but an accomplished player, he will always score goals
Rob Collins - A surprise inclusion in the squad, but has shown enough promise to justify his place.

Unfortunately we could not fulfill our first fixture against Palmerstown due to clashes with duties, unfortunately this resulted in us giving them a walkover. But we made our first appearance against Raheny last Sunday (21-09-03) and emerged victorious in the sunshine beating them 23-17. The game was a wake up call for all as they realised how unfit they were, but to come out winners has given all a great boost.

We now look forward to out next game on Sunday week (same day as the FAI cup semi finals) against Drimnagh, no doubt it will be anothre tough game but with the Templeogue team in confident mood, a win will be expected!
