| This painting depicts a small group of penguins taking refuge from the hungry jaws of several killer whales. Although they are unaware of it, this particular iceberg upon which the birds have landed is in its own way as potentially dangerous as are the orcas. This is a blue berg, so called due to its abnormally deep blue color, a sign of extreme age and instability among icebergs. Even though it is providing temporary safe haven for them, this "sanctuary" could literally collapse in upon itself at any moment, raining down tons of ice and rock upon the unsuspecting penguins |
