With Alki beach in West Seattle serving as a backdrop for this colorful piece, three juvenile killer whales soar joyfully overhead, leaving their native ocean environment for mere seconds in a brief flight into the night sky. While this painting does contain a certain element of fancy, these magnificent marine animals routinely leap from the ocean's surface in just such a manner. Jarrett has personally witnessed leaps of as high as 25 feet the equivalent of more than one entire body length of the animal which he was observing.
The Golden Zone transports us to the icy waters of Alaska and the awesome beauty of an orca breaching before a storm charged sky.
