03.23.02 Shipwreck Falls New Info on Shipwreck Falls
: According to a recent article from Amusement Today,
Shipwreck Falls will only carry 2 boats with 20 passangers
on each. It will feature the usual U-Turn and then will
only climb 5 stories. However, they snuck in that infact,
good themeing will be made with a lagoon at the bottom,
and thats why there was so much land being removed.
This ride is a brand new, massive shoot-the-chutes ride
designed and built by Intamin AG. If you don't know
what a shoot-the-chutes ride is, it is similar to the
log ride, but with giant boats, usually about 4 people
across and 4 back. The layout is still officially unknown,
but from speculation, it is believed to be the typical
layout among shoot-the-chutes rides throughout Six Flags
and other parks; basically either a rectangular shape
or the figure 8. The ride is pretty simple, it goes
up a lift hill, makes a 180 degree turn, and comes down
a fairly steep and long hill, most likely between 50
and 75 feet tall. At the bottom of the hill, the boat
sheds a 15-20 foot splash, soaking riders and spectators.
It was announced that a bridge will be added at the
bottom of the hill so other speculators can get soaked,
when the boat hits bottom. Themeing is believed to be
top of the line for a SF park, from what we can tell
so far, but won't be officially known until weeks before
it opens.
Updated construction are now present,
the last 2 that are shown here. It is announced by the
park that supports will be up in the next few weeks, probally
the beginning of April, and footers are completed now.
I noticed that they have dug the lagoon in which water
will be filled soon!
03.23.02 Slingshot SLINGSHOT will now have a
permanent home at Six Flags Darien Lake. This extreme
attraction is bigger and better than the prototype that
was tested at the park late last season. The SLINGSHOT
is a reverse-bungee ride in which passengers enter an
open-air capsule, are lowered to the ground face-up,
and then catapulted 300 feet in the air at speeds up
to 80 miles per hour, making the rider the tallest attraction
in the park! SLINGSHOT will be erected to the immediate
right of the main entrance, backing up to SHIPWRECK
FALLS. An on-board camera captures the face-scrunching,
stomach-turning action!
There is now officially construction
going up, started some time this week. So far, all 3
main trenches have been dug, and the 2 giant 250 ft
supports have started. The bottom of the supports have
only been put in, and haven't been dug for stability
yet, but once it is in the next few weeks, they will
finish adding the supports to its desired height. Once
the supports are complete, the rest of the themeing
and landscaping will be complete. Here are the latest
photos.

TurboBungy! Six Flags Darien Lake is jumping
with joy over the addition of TURBOBUNGY! to its expansive collection
of interactive attractions. This bungee-trampoline is a favorite
among the kids and teens. It allows guests to bounce, flip and
create crazy stunts up to 20 feet in the air with the aid of
a bungee-cord harness and a trampoline pad. Six Flags Darien
Lake's new Power Quad version allows four people to play at
once!
Construction wise so far, the four pads won't be delivered to
the park until at least Spring when the weather is nice. These
will go up extremely quickly, like days, because you basically
just have to put a trampoline together than screw in the 2 small
supports and harnest. We will update you when they finally get
delivered with construction photos.

New Show :
"Boy Band" Show Not exactly the best thrill for my
taste, but is a great addition for girls that attend the park.
I happy that Six Flags actually had the thought to allow another
show come to the park. Look and listen for amature boy singers
as you venture through SFDL when you go!

New Signature Food Item :
Heary Smoked Turkey Legs Here is something that really caught
my attention, and made my belly start to growl. This new signature
food item is a great addition to the parks food side and couldn't
have been introduced any other park other than a park in Buffalo,
since the city is known for great food and Buffalo Wings. It's
hard to tell if these will be like the other expensive but crappy
food items around the park or if it will truly be gormet, but
I have high hopes... they sound delicious! This food item gives
me high hopes that the park will start to introduce some more
in-park and out-park unique restraunts with a variety of food.
I just hope they start to move away from the food carts, which
I think this food item is going to be introduced with. The only
other thing officially announced with this 2002 addition is
that it will infact be located in the all new Shipwreck Falls
area, hopefully on an all new path and themed area. Look for
this hot food item in the 2002 Season, and we will let you know
what we think of this item when we finally try these!

Redisigned Building for Shipwreck Falls This is a brand new project that
SFDL just released, as of yesterday. All of the information
known on it is that it was totally remodeled to support the
new Shipwreck Falls area. This building is located near Mind
Eraser and is right on the big walkway that is closest to the
parking lot. It was already build a while ago as a restraunt,
and sold the usual fast food like fries, hot dogs, etc. but
now is remodeled. This is a good sign that the new section is
going to be top of the line, with lots of improvements and additions!
So far from what's known, it will remain selling these products.
