| Charles " Ed " Jones, a forestry investigator with The Division of Forestry for 15 years and a former Lee County Sheriff's deputy, died Monday of a heart attack at his Fort Myers home. A native of Naples, Jones, 53, made law enforcement a life - long pursuit. After joining The Division of Forestry in 1973, he became responsible for investigating all suspicious fires in Lee, Collier, and Hendry Counties. " As a forestry investingator, he was responsible for all the law enforcement things- arson investingation, citations, developing legal cases" said District Forester Henry Graham. " He was in law enforcement for 30 years. "He was a very dedicated person", said his wife Vivian. " He was very outgoing and very much a family man. He was always devoted to his children. He liked his work and he liked people." He began his career at age 20 when he became a U.S.Air Force Police officer. He attained the rank of Sergeant. In 1958 Jones joined the Naples Police Dept, where he was a Lieutenant in charge of the patrol division. Jones moved to Fort Myers in 1969, where he became a Sergeant in the Criminal Investigations Department of the Lee County Sheriff's Office. " He knows personally every fire chief and nearly every fire fighter and law enforcement officer." Graham said. " Ed, because of his professionalism, gave the Division of Forestry a good name." Jones served as secretary-treasurer for the Florida Police Benevolent Assoc.and was a member of the Araba Shrine Temple, Fort Myers Scottish Rite, the Elks Lodge and the Naples Cypress Masonic Lodge. He is survived by his wife, Vivian; two daughters, Teresa Jones and Lisa Jones White, both of Fort Myers; and one brother, Howard Cale Jones of Mississippi. Funeral services will be at 10 am Thursday at Wesley Memorial Methodist Church, 4141 DeLeon Street. Visitation will be from 6-8 pm today at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens Chapel, 1589 Colonial Blvd. Memorial donations may be made to the Shriners Childrens Hospital, 12502 North Pine Dr. Tampa, Fl. 33612 |

| Mrs. Ethel L. Stepp Jones died at her home here Wednesday night after a long illness. A native of Alabama, Mrs. Jones had made her home in Florida for the past 25 years. She was a member of the Methodist Church. She is survived by three sons, Chief of Police Cale Jones of Naples, Stephen Jones and Jesse Jones; a daughter, Mrs. Ethel Roland of anderson, Ala; 14 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 am today ( Friday) at the Naples Methodist church with Rev. John B. Gill Jr. officiating. Internment will be in Fort Myers. Pallbearers will be Elworth Wade, A.P.Ayers, Claude Storter, E.L. Bowling, Arnold Haynes, and Roy Atkins. |

| Funeral services for Jesse F. Jones who died yesterday at his home at 787 10th Ave, South, will be held at 10 o'clock tomorrow morning in the Naples chapel of the Richard A. Pittman Funeral home with the Rev. Walter Jessup, Pastor of the north Naples Methodist church officiating. Burial will be in Naples Memorial Gardens, Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 o'clock tonight. |
