Babblin with Brook
Sweet Hearts or Sadie Hawkins, What do you think?
Brook Clark
Columnist
I am
really not much in the complaining mood these
days, but something is bothering me.
I know it is barely winter, but i'd like to bring
up an event that won't occur until February.
Why is there a Sweet Heart dance this year? If my
memory servers me correctly, I believe this is
the year that a Sadie Hawkins dance should be
held.
I don't know if administrators forgot which dance
was to be held or what, but I just wanted to
bring the fact to someone's attention.
Rumor is that the reason there is to be a Sweet
Heart dance again this year is so that the
freshmen and sophomores can have their royal
Sweet Heart Court.
If this is the reason, I don't find it fair. I
don't think that a routine should be changed to
satisfy half of the students at East. Plus, the
freshmen/sophomore court was just started last
year.
I am not going to go on bad mouthing the freshmen/sophomore
court because I really don't have much of an
opinion on that. I just don't see why it has to
be a Sweet Heart Court. Why can't it be the
Spring Court? Therefore, they can have their
court and the school can have a Sadie Hawkins
dance as well.
Personally, I don't see the whole point of even
holding a Sweet Heart dance. I have attended both
a Sweet Heart dance and a Sadie Hawkins dance,
and I enjoyed the Sadie Hawkins dance more.
I also remember seeing a lot of more people at
the Sadie Hawkins dance than I did at the Sweet
Heart dance I attended. No one ever seems to show
for a Sweet Heart dance.
The number one reason, and only reason people don't
show up for Sweet Heart dances is because not
everyone has a sweetheart.
The Sweet Heart dance is related to Valentines
Day, love and all that mushy stuff. Not everyone
that attends East has someone special to ask to
the dance, and they don't want to feel out of
place showing up with a bunch of friends.
Having a Sadie Hawkins dance doesn't cause so
many complications. The main thing most people
worry about it finding stylish, matching shirts
to wear. No worries of if they have a date or not.
Sadie Hawkins gives the opportunity for couples
to wear matching outfits, as well as grabbing a
group of your closest friends to go shopping with
and then to a dance. No hassle about having a
date, if you have one, you have one, if you don't,
you don't
Giving up
I also don't see why the school hasn't
given up on Sweet Heart dances all together. As I
said earlier, more people seem to attend Sadie
Hawkins dances more, so that means more tickets
are sold, which results in more money. Money is a
good thing when it comes to school, isn't it?
