The images were combined by overlying the x-ray image onto the corresponding optical image in Adobe Photoshop. The objects seen on the x-ray were circled so that they could be seen in the combined images.
The modelled images were produced by inputting the exact phantom details into the optical imaging reconstruction programme 'TOAST'.
These images show that some of the items inside the phantom interfered with one another.
