A close-up of the pyramids. Most pictures suggested a smooth surface. Originally they were covered in a brilliant white limestone coating which when the sun hit them it acted  like a huge beacon to be seen for miles around.
Sphinx & the Great Pyramids. It's now believed that skilled artisans and general paid laborers built the pyramids, not slave labor as was earlier thought. Excavations around the area show a thriving well fed army of workers lived here.

This is a full size sarcophagus and that ain't gold paint.
A lot of stories have been told about King Tut's Curse but they now feel that the deaths attibuted to this so called curse were in fact caused by microbes or spores that had been dormant for a few thousand years and activated when the tomb was opened and people started breathing in these organisms. Anyway, the museum in Cairo is a fabulous collection of antiquities and well worth the journey.
