Captain Dennis Dinota Ret.
My name is Denny Dinota. I served
with Mike Company from December 1966 to
end of June 1967. Served as
a Platoon Commander, Platoon Sergeant and was
the Company Gunnery Sergeant
during Operation Union, Union II and Adair. The
Marines (We called them kids
while I was only 25) I served with were magnificent.
They went toe to toe with an
enemy who had been fighting for years and who
often out numbered them, and
kicked their ass. One only has to read the
Presidential Unit Citation awarded
to the 5th marines for Operation Union to see
that their performance matched
any throughout the history of the 5th Marines, the
most decorated regiment in the
U. S. Marine Corps.
