Operations ARC

Your soldier is now the proud owner of a "tin" recruiter's badge. Your home is packed up and loaded onto a moving truck headed for Recruiting Land. You have your folder of information and box of important documents. Below is a checklist for this stage of the voyage.

When close to the area, your soldier should contact battalion again to confirm station assignment.

Find a hotel to be your "base of operations" for the home search. A hotel which offers extended stay plans with continential meals (at least one meal per day) is a real money saver. Spend the first day or two relaxing and looking over maps of the local area. If battalion has confirmed station assignment, contact the recruiting station. This will be especially helpful if you want to live in the same areas in which your soldier will be recruiting out of.

Plan your attack on the rental community. Contact agents for appointments to check out potential homes. Remember, your soldier will have a probation period of 9 months. For this reason, rent first/buy later is a good rule of thumb. Have a copy of the "military clause" (see "Helpful Links") with you when viewing the homes and speak with the realtor about including the clause in your lease.

When you find the best home for your BAH and family needs, check with the recruiting station prior to signing the lease. Verify everything with battalion before signing anything.

You should check in with the SFAPM, especially if there is an EFMP family member.

When the movers unload the household goods, have them place the boxes in the appropriate room. This will minimize unpacking time.
