Dolora Zajick World's Reigning Dramatic Mezzo-Soprano-With an unequaled range, a voice that never shifts gears, a pianissimo that haunts, a fortissimo that fulfills even the most satiated tastes, the velvety, lustrous sounds Ms. Zajick projects in whatever she sings astonishes those lucky enough to hear her, which - it's my guess - includes the singer herself (Review -Dolora Z - a Night with the Diva.)
Philip Cutlip* As Papageno, baritone Philip Cutlip and he more than does it justice both vocally and theatrically, getting all the laughs he should without pandering. (Review-Magic Flute) Philip Cutlip's astoundingly powerful baritone stole the show in a balance of precise articulations, breathtaking control and a mighty, robust tone.(Review-Handel's Messiah)
| Rodney Gilfry
Rodney Gilfry, a powerhouse baritone, gained fire in his voice through the opera in direct proportion to the character's consumption of "alcohol." Gilfry was athletic in the distorted actions the stage director Jossi Wieler puts him through, all over and around the desk and tables and Faust's bed, which is the center piece (Review- Dr. Faust.) |
Thibaut - Joans father - bass
Raymond - Tenor - Joans fiance
Sean Panikkar It was notable mostly as a vehicle for the superbly athletic and far- ranging vocalism of soprano Elza van den Heever as a seaside Penelope and tenor Sean Panikkar as her long-lost husband.- Review What Fools These Husbands Be
Karen Slack Ms Slack was awarded a prestigious Adler Fellowship by the San Francisco Opera Center as a member of its 2002 Merola Opera Program. A soprano with regal polish which she used effectively to enchance Elvira's love lament "Ernani! Involami," one of Verdi's loveliest utterances (Review.)
Misha Didyk This young Ukranian tenor with a big voice offered the best tenor singing heard all weekend, the voice clear and focused. (Review-Macbeth) Misha Didyk is most convincing as Herman. Through absolute sensitivity of tone he catches the two sides of the part, the combination of total insecurity and total obsession. Without using any expressionistic exaggerations free reins are given to the romantic, which provides air and space to the voice (Queen fo Spades - in SFO's Spring 2005 season)
Peter Strummer He was reviewed as 'an imposing Badger'- (Review-Vixon.) Strummer was suitably revolting as Geronte -and even got booed for his efforts. (Review) Also in Forz this season.
