| Bass-baritone Phillip Skinner was an aptly arrogant and regal Escamillo, the Torador. (Review-Carmen) |
| I was particularly happy to see Phillip Skinner on that
stage, as the Bailli. I have been following this gentleman
since the late 80s, when he sang comprimario roles frequently
at San Francisco Opera. His gorgeous bass-baritone, his
flair for the comic, and impeccable diction almost stole the
first act away from the principals. Wonderful performance!! (Review-Werther) |

| APPOMATOX The closing set-piece of the opera, before the final statement of War is always sorrowful, is a long and chilling solo by bass-baritone Philip Skinner. He portrays the octogenarian Edgar Ray Killen, convicted in 2005 of conspiracy to kill several civil rights workers some 40 years earlier. Skinners performance is scarily perfect, delivered coldly from Killens wheelchair and consisting of Killens own words, which include Id love to shake [James Earl Rays] hand and calling the civil rights workers troublemakers and scum of the earth./ Appomattox Review-07 MAGIC FLUTE Philip Skinner was a fine late substitution as the Speaker. (Do you think someone could put up a photo of The Speaker?) / Magic Flute Review-07 The speaker in the Magic Flute plot: "The Speaker swears that duty and an oath bind his tongue, but promises Tamino that all will be revealed as soon as he is led by the hand of friendship into the sanctuary to the eternal bond. " " It will be the Speaker's job to teach them to know the duty of humanity and the power of the gods. All ask Isis and Osiris to guide the steps of these two wanderers (O Isis und Osiris)." It has been an amazing experience to see Phillip Skinner change from ultimate evil to ultimate virtuous every other night. |
