Research on field machinery for rice production

ABSTRACT

Research on rice mechanisation in Malaysia is required to help overc ome the peak labour shortages that occured following the intensification of rice cultivation. It is required because of the differences in the physical, agrono mic and socio-economic conditions in this country compared to those in the machi nery exporting countries. Present practices and the constraints to rice mechani sation in the country are discussed briefly. Past and present research activiti es in rice field machinery are outlined. Research efforts in the past had mainl y been centered on the performance testing and evaluation of imported machinery. There is a need for an integrated, comprehensive and systematic research progr amme for rice mechanisation in the country. Industrial extension liaison would be required to complement the research activities in such a programme.

ABSTRAK

Penyelidikan mengenai kejenteraan bagi tanaman padi adalah diperlukan untuk men gatasi masalah kekurangan tenaga buruh yang memuncak ekoran kepada keadaan penan aman padi secara intensif. Ia diperlukan disebabkan oleh perbezaan yang terdapa t di antara keadaan fisikal, agronomi dan sosio-ekonomi di negara ini berbanding dengan yang terdapat di negara-negara pengeluar jentera pertanian. Amalan sema sa dan halangan terhadap mekanisasi pengeluaran padi di negara ini telah digaris kan bersama aktiviti-aktiviti penyelidikan mekanisasi padi semasa dan yang lampa u. Usaha penyelidikan yang lampau telah lebih ditumpukan kepada penilaian dan u jian jentera-jentera yang diimport. Satu program penyelidikan mekanisasi padi y ang bersepadu, menyeluruh dan sistematik adalah diperlukan. Pengembangan indust ri jentera pertanian juga diperlukan untuk mengkomplimen aktiviti penyelidikan p rogram tersebut.
