RESEARCH EXPERIENCES AT MARDI:

·        Design and development of a single‑axle powertiller for local manufacture from 1974‑1978

  • Design and development of a rice stripper harvester from 1974‑1978

  • Ultra‑low volume spraying for pest control in rice production from 1974‑1975

·        Design and development of traction aids for 2W and 4W tractors on soft rice soils from 1974‑1978

  • Design and evaluation of farm level crop drying systems from 1974‑1979

·        Post‑harvest Paddy Loss study in the Muda Scheme together with experts from Tropical Product Institute of England in 1975

  • Design and development of a tobacco bedformer from 1978‑1979

·        Design and development of machinery for clearing of undecomposed wood in peat from 1979‑1985

·        Design and development of traction aids for machinery on soft peat soil from 1979‑1985

·        Design and development of interrow carriers to assist in harvesting pineapples from 1982‑1986

  • Design and development for local manufacture of MALTRAK, a multipurpose transporter for soft peat from 1983‑1987. The fabrication of MALTRAK was undertaken with the assistance Howard Alatpertanian Sdn Bhd at their workshop in 1986. Was awarded the medal and certificate of excellence for work on MALTRAK in 1987. Assisted Howard in the design, development and commercialisation of their commercial transporter, Serbatrak based on the MALTRAK design.

  • Design and development for local manufacture a multiple‑use primemover for use as a paddy combine harvester, as an infield transporter and as a tractor for soft paddy soils from 1987‑1991. Two prototype units were fabricated and developed with the assistance of Howard. Spent more than 50 percent of time at Howard during the period.

  • Design and development for local manufacture a tracked tractor for use on peat soil from 1992 to 1996. The prototype unit was fabricated with the assistance of Howard Alatpertanian Sdn Bhd and Sperry Vickers Sdn Bhd.

·        Computer compilation of Agricultural Engineering Division Databases such as Abstracts of Publications using CDS/ISIS, details of conferences, seminars, attended  using Dbase IV and Agricultural Engineering Technology inventories using MOSAIC from 1991 to 1996.

  • Design and develop computer programmes, models and Expert systems to assist and complement agricultural engineering research efforts from 1991 to 1996.

  • Member of the consultant to prepare a master plan for MARDI Peat Research Station. The specific tasks undertaken were to specify the appropriate land clearing procedures in detail (including removal of plant debris and wood in peat) and to propose mechanization strategies and suitable machines for field operations.

  • Design and development of machinery and equipment for preservation of flowers (including drying, pressing, conveying, cutting etc.) from 1996 to 2001.

  • Develop Decision Support Systems to evaluate of the impact of mechanisation and other proposed strategies aimed at restructuring the tobacco industry to meet the challenges of AFTA

  • Evaluation of rotary dryer, flatbed dryer and solar assisted dryer for kenaf drying for use as animal feed from 2002-2004

  • Design and development of machinery for mixing the potpourri ingredients (including spraying of perfume into it) from 2002-2004.
