The development of a tractor mounted tobacco
bedformer

ABSTRACT
The work involved in the design and development of a
tractor mounted tobacco bedformer (which uses a specific
system of implements) was discussed. The tobacco bedformer
was made up of a standard rotavator, a pair of ridger bodies
attached to the rotavator (with the soil cover removed) and
bedshaper. Trials carried out showed that with proper
setting and operation of the bedformer and the tractor, the
required tobacco beds could be obtained. With the tobacco
bedformer the tractor owners, who provide contract service of
land rotavation to the farmers, can make the required beds
without primary cultivation on bris soil or during the second
pass on clayey type of soils; and with a marginal additional
charge to the farmers.

Kerja-kerja berkenaan dengan mereka-bentuk dan memajukan
satu sistem alat tambah traktor pembuat batas untuk tanaman
tembakau telah dibincangkan. Sistem alat pembuat batas
tembakau ini terdiri dari kombinasi khas alat pembajak
berputar (rotavator), sepasang alat pembatas (ridger) yang
disambung kepada alat pembajak berputar itu dan alat
pembentuk batas (bedshaper). Dari ujian yang dijalankan,
didapati bahawa dengan pemasangan sistem alat pembuat batas
tembakau ini dan penggunaan traktor dengan betul, batas-batas
yang amat sesuai untuk tanaman tembakau boleh diperolehi.
Dengan sistem alat tersebut, kontraktor yang sekarang diupah
menjalankan kerja-kerja membajak-putar tanah petani boleh
membuat batas untuk tanaman tembakau tanpa pembajakan atas
tanah beris atau serentak dalam pusingan kedua atas tanah
liat; dan hanya dengan sedikit harga tambahan kepada petani-
petani.
